New York Mercantile Exchange Building
One North End Avenue, also known as the New York Mercantile Exchange Building, is an office building at the Brookfield Place (World Financial Center) complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is located on the coast of Battery Park City and the Hudson River and in front of 250 Vesey Street. It serves as the headquarters and trading facility of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The New York Mercantile Exchange relocated from 4 World Trade Center to One North End Avenue in 1997, after the directors of the exchange had considered moving to New Jersey for several years. Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, the building suffered minor damage. After 9/11, four American flags were affixed to the top corners of the building. In 2013 Brookfield Properties purchased the building for US$200 million and merged it with the rest of the complex. Vesey Street
Vesey Street ( ) is a street in New York City that runs east-west in Lower Manhattan. The street is named after Rev. William Vesey (1674–1746), the first rector of nearby Trinity Church (Manhattan), Trinity Church. History The intersection of Vesey and West Streets was the site of the Washington Market, the city's main produce market. Established in 1812, its location near the docks facilitated the movement of goods. West Side Highway
The Joe DiMaggio Highway, commonly called the West Side Highway and formerly the Miller Highway, is a mostly surface section of New York State Route 9A (NY 9A), running from 72nd Street (Manhattan), West 72nd Street along the Hudson River to the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. It replaced the West Side Elevated Highway, built between 1929 and 1951, was shut down in 1973 due to neglect and lack of maintenance, and was dismantled by 1989. North of 72nd Street, the roadway continues as the Henry Hudson Parkway. The current highway was complete by 2001, but required reconstruction after the September 11 attacks that year, when the collapse of the World Trade Center caused debris to fall onto the surrounding areas, damaging the highway. North Cove Marina
The North Cove Marina, also known as World Trade Center Yacht Harbor and Marina, is a municipal inland harbor in Manhattan, New York. The marina is primarily used for 80 to 150-foot mega-yachts and is part of Brookfield Place. History Built in 1989, it claimed to be the first European-style mega-yacht harbor in the continental United States. It is located between the buildings of the Brookfield Place complex and directly in front of the new World Trade Center. During the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 it was used to rescue people from the collapse of the World Trade Center. Steve Rothman
Steven Richard Rothman (born October 14, 1952) is an American former jurist and Democratic politician who served as the U.S. representative for New Jersey's 9th congressional district, serving for 16 years from January 3, 1997, to January 3, 2013. Rothman was a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and also served on the House Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology Committees. Prior to his election to the U.S. Congress, Rothman also served as the elected Bergen County Surrogate Court judge, and the two-term mayor of the City of Englewood, New Jersey. The original 4 World Trade Center (4 WTC), also known as the Southeast Plaza Building, was a nine-story, 118 ft (36 m)-tall building at the southeast corner of the World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Completed in 1975, the building was designed by Minoru Yamasaki and Emery Roth & Sons. On September 11, 2001, the building was heavily damaged as a result of attacks carried out by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, and was later demolished. Its site is now the location of 3 World Trade Center and the new 4 World Trade Center. History 4 World Trade Center was built on the site of the Hudson Terminal complex.
