New Spirit Party
Partia Fryma e Re (FeR; ) was a political party in Kosovo. It was founded and registered with the Central Elections Committee in October 2010 by Harvard University graduate Shpend Ahmeti, Ilir Deda, Director of the Kosovo Institute for Policy Research and Development (KIPRED) and others, and supports Kosovo in becoming a new generation political state. Shpend Ahmeti
Shpend Ali Ahmeti (born 18 April 1978, Pristina) is a Kosovo Albanian politician who served as the mayor of Pristina. He was leader of the New Spirit Party, which merged into Vetëvendosje in 2011, and served as their vice chairman. However, after internal disputes he left the party in 2018 to become the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo. In 2019 he became an independent politician. Ahmeti lectured public policy at the American University in Kosovo before he became mayor. In the first round of elections on 3 November 2013, Ahmeti was around 8,000 votes behind Isa Mustafa, but in the second round on 1 December 2013 he won by around 2,500 votes. Mustafa accused Ahmeti of fraud. Ahmeti's win was eventually confirmed, ending 15 years of LDK tenure in the capital of Kosovo. ''Koha Ditore'' (trans. ''Daily Time'') is the leading daily newspaper in Kosovo. It is published by Koha Group and was founded and owned by politician Veton Surroi. His sister Flaka Surroi is now the publisher, following Veton Surroi's launch of his political career within the ORA reformist party. The newspaper initially published as a weekly magazine Koha, that ran from 1992 to 1994, becoming a leading weekly magazine in Kosovo. 2010 Kosovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 12 December 2010, following a vote of no-confidence in the government that brought forward the election. Those were the first elections after the country declared independence. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) of incumbent Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi won a plurality amidst controversies and a partial re-poll, while he was still in the process of trying to form a government. The election was seriously hampered by a number of irregularities and election fraud; and a second poll was held on 9 January 2011 at 21 voting stations in 5 municipalities. The new vote was still positive for Thaçi in 4 out of 5 municipalities.
