New Sarum Air Force Station
Manyame Air Base (IATA: HRE, ICAO: FVRG) is one of the two main air bases for the Air Force of Zimbabwe, and is located at Harare International (Robert Gabriel Mugabe) Airport. Formerly known as New Sarum Air Force Station, Manyame Air Base is home to the fixed-wing transport (Falcon) squadron, as well as the two helicopter squadrons (Spider and Scorpion). The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) is the air force of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. It was known as the Rhodesian Air Force until 1980. Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (), (known colloquially as "RGM", or Harare Airport) and formerly known as Harare International Airport and Salisbury Airport, is an international airport in Harare, Zimbabwe. The CASA C-212 Aviocar is a turboprop-powered STOL medium cargo aircraft designed and built by Spanish aircraft manufacturer Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (CASA). It is designed for use by both civil and military operators. The C-212 was developed during the 1960s in response to the Spanish Air Force's need to replace much of its transport aircraft fleet; it was designed to perform numerous missions, including air medical services, paratrooper transport, and utility roles. The Eurocopter AS532 Cougar (now Airbus Helicopters H215M) is a twin-engine, medium-weight, multipurpose helicopter developed by Eurocopter. The AS532 is a development and upgrade of the Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma in its militarized form. Its civilian counterpart is the Eurocopter AS332 Super Puma (Later called the Airbus Helicopters H215, note the lack of M suffix). The AS532 has been further developed as the Eurocopter EC725. Design and development The AS332 Super Puma, designed as a growth version to replace the SA 330 Puma, first flew in September 1977. The Mil Mi-38 is a transport helicopter designed by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant and being developed by Kazan Helicopters. Originally intended as a replacement for the Mil Mi-8 and the Mil Mi-17, Mi-17, it is being marketed in both military and Civilian, civil versions. It flew for the first time on 22 December 2003 and was certified on 30 December 2015. The Bell 412 is a utility helicopter of the Huey family manufactured by Bell Helicopter. It is a development of the Bell 212, with the major difference being the composite four-blade main rotor. It is a twin-turbine helicopter that has been popular on the civilian and military markets, and major users include Canada, Italy, and Japan.
