New Right (Israel)
The New Right (, ''HaYamin HeHadash'') is a right-wing political party in Israel, established in December 2018 by Ayelet Shaked and Naftali Bennett. The New Right aims to be a right-wing party open to both religious and secular people. The party did not win any seats in the April 2019 election, though it won three seats in the subsequent election of September 2019, retained these in the March 2020 election and increased to seven seats in the 2021 Israeli legislative election. It is currently the sole member of the Yamina alliance. History The party was formed in December 2018, when Naftali Bennett, Ayelet Shaked, and Shuli Mualem left the Jewish Home, using the registration of the unused Tzalash party. Naftali Bennett
Naftali Bennett (, ; born 25 March 1972) is an Israeli politician and businessman who served as the prime minister of Israel from 13 June 2021 to 30 June 2022, and as the alternate prime minister from 1 July to 8 November 2022. Bennett was the leader of the New Right party from 2018 to 2022, having previously led The Jewish Home party between 2012 and 2018. The son of immigrants from the United States, Bennett was born and raised in Haifa. Bennett served in the Sayeret Matkal and Maglan special forces units of the Israel Defense Forces, commanding many combat operations, and subsequently became a software entrepreneur. In 1999, he co-founded and co-owned the US company Cyota. The company was sold in 2005 for $145 million. He also was CEO of Soluto, an Israeli cloud computing service, that sold in 2013 for a reported $100–130 million. Caroline B. Glick (; born 1969) is an Israeli-American conservative journalist and author who lives in Efrat, in Gush Etzion. Tzalash (, an acronym for ''Tziyonut Liberaliyut Shivyon'', () lit. ''Zionism Liberalism Equality'') was a one-man political faction in Israel. Background Tzalash was formed after MK and Infrastructure Minister Yosef Paritzky was expelled from Shinui in July 2004 after he had been caught attempting to shame Shinui's deputy leader Avraham Poraz; he had hired a private investigator to look into Poraz's affairs and "drop him in the dirt." Paritzky's actions were investigated by the police, but charges were not brought. Shinui attempted to have Paritzky expelled from the Knesset and replace him with another Shinui MK. The Jewish Home () was an Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox Jewish, Religious Zionism, religious Zionist and Far-right politics in Israel, far-right political party in Israel. It was originally formed by a merger of the National Religious Party, Moledet and Tkuma (political party), Tkuma in November 2008. However, Moledet broke away from the party after its top representative was placed only 17th on the new party's list for the 2009 Israeli legislative election, 2009 Knesset elections, and instead ran on a joint list with Hatikva (political party), Hatikva. Tkuma later also left to join the National Union (Israel), National Union. Shuli Mualem
Shulamit "Shuli" Mualem-Rafaeli (; born 8 February 1965) is an Israeli nurse and politician. She served as a member of the Knesset for the Jewish Home between February 2013 and March 2015, and again from October 2015 until December 2018, when she joined the New Right. Biography Born in Haifa to a religious Jewish family, Mualem was one of nine children. Her parents had immigrated from Morocco, a couple of months prior to her birth. She grew up in the Neve David neighbourhood, and was a member of the religious-Zionist youth organization Bnei Akiva. During her national service, she worked as a teacher. After her national service, she attended the Shaare Zedek nursing school, gaining a bachelor's degree, before taking a master's degree course in industrial engineering at the Technion. Yamina
Yamina or Yemina (; ) was an Israeli political alliance of right-wing parties that originally included the New Right and the Union of Right-Wing Parties (a union of The Jewish Home and Tkuma). The final incarnation of the alliance included only the New Right, as The Jewish Home left the alliance on 14 July 2020, and the Religious Zionist Party left on 20 January 2021. The list was created ahead of the September 2019 Israeli legislative election, in which Yamina secured seven seats in the Knesset. The alliance was expected to split on 6 October, with the New Right as its own faction, while Tkuma and the Jewish Home will stay together, though the alliance continued to negotiate as a single bloc in the aftermath of the election. 2020 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 2 March 2020 to elect members of the twenty-third Knesset.
