New Richmond Swing Bridge
The New Richmond Swing Bridge, also known as the Fifty-Seventh Street Bridge, is a one lane swing bridge in Michigan. Located in Allegan County's Manlius Township, it connected 57th Street with Old Allegan Road over the Kalamazoo River until its closure to vehicular traffic. The name New Richmond comes from a former mining town in the area of the same name. The bridge is one of the oldest - if not the oldest - swing bridges extant in the United States, and is one of the oldest metal truss bridges in the state of Michigan and the state's longest pony truss bridge. History The first bridge to cross the Kalamazoo River at this location was constructed in 1842, as part of a local highway connecting Allegan with the now-defunct village of Singapore. Manlius Township, Michigan
Manlius Township is a civil township of Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,312 at the 2020 census. History A post to trade with the local Ottawa people was established by a man named Campau here in 1825. The township was established in 1839. Communities The city of Fennville is at the southwest corner of the township, but is administratively autonomous. New Richmond New Richmond is an unincorporated community within the township at near where Old Allegan Road and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway cross the Kalamazoo River. Warren Errol Truss, (born 8 October 1948) is a former Australian politician who served as the 16th Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development in the Abbott Government and the Turnbull Government.
