New Left ( hr, Nova ljevica, NL) is a democratic socialist and social-democratic political party in Croatia. It also promotes anti-fascism, environmentalism, and progressivism on social issues. History The party was established in December 2016, thanks to the efforts of left-wing intellectuals and civil activists including Dragan Markovina, Zoran Pusić, Vesna Teršelič, Nadežda Čačinovič and Nikola Devčić. Dragan Markovina
Dragan Markovina (born 6 February 1981) is a Croatian historian, author and former president of the New Left Croatia party. Early years and education Markovina was born in Mostar and there he attended the first 5 grades of primary school. In 1992, due to the Bosnian War, he moved to the island of Korčula in Croatia where he continued primary school. He continued to live there after the war. In 1999, Markovina graduated from the gymnasium in Korčula. After that he went to study history at the University Centre for Croatian Studies in Zagreb. He graduated from the faculty in 2004. Nadežda Čačinovič
Nadežda Čačinovič (born 1 April 1947) is a Croatian philosopher, sociologist and author. She was born to Slovene parents in Budapest in 1947 where her father Rudolf Čačinovič was serving as a military attache. She graduated in philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Ljubljana. She subsequently studied at the University of Bonn from 1968 to 1970 where her father was serving as ambassador of Yugoslavia to West Germany. She obtained a doctorate and became a professor at the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, being employed there since 1976. She is also a member of an Advisory Board of a left-wing magazine ''Novi Plamen''. Čačinovič was also active in left wing politics, running for parliament for the Social Democratic Action of Croatia. European Parliament elections were held in Croatia on 26 May 2019, electing members of the national Croatia constituency to the European Parliament. These were the third such elections in the country since its accession to the European Union in 2013. The 2021 Zagreb local elections were the elections for the 53rd mayor of Zagreb, the two deputy mayors, the 47 members of the Zagreb Assembly, the councils of districts and the local committees. It was part of the Croatian local elections, which took place on 16 May 2021. The runoff for the mayor took place on 30 May 2021. As Zagreb, being the national capital, is the only Croatian city to enjoy a special status within Croatia's regional administrative framework (being both a city and a county), the mayor of Zagreb likewise also enjoys a status equal to that of a county prefect ( hr, župan) of one of Croatia's other 20 counties ( hr, županija). Parliamentary elections were held in Croatia on 5 July 2020. They were the tenth parliamentary elections since the first multi-party elections in 1990 and elected the 151 members of the Croatian Parliament. 140 Members of Parliament were elected from geographical electoral districts in Croatia, three MPs were chosen by the Croatian diaspora and eight MPs came from the ranks of citizens registered as belonging to any of the 22 constitutionally recognized national minorities. During April 2020, there had been widespread media speculation that the election would be called earlier than originally planned, due to the uncertainty created by the still-ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Green alternative - Sustainable Development of Croatia ( hr, Zelena alternativa - Održivi razvoj Hrvatske) or ORaH (''Orah'' meaning "walnut" in Croatian) is a minor green political party in Croatia. Zagreb is OURS! ( hr, Zagreb je NAŠ!) is a municipalist green left political party from Zagreb, Croatia.
