New Hampshire Attorney General
The attorney general of New Hampshire is a constitutional officer of the U.S. state of New Hampshire who serves as head of the New Hampshire Department of Justice. , the state's attorney general is John Formella. Qualifications and appointment Under Part II, Article 46 of the New Hampshire Constitution, the attorney general is appointed by the governor with approval of the Council. The attorney general serves a term of four years, as required bRSA 21-M:3 which is two years longer than the term of the governor. The attorney general and their deputy must be "admitted to the practice of law in New Hampshire" and also "be qualified by reason of education and experience." John Formella
John Michael Formella (born 1986 or 1987) is an American lawyer serving as the 31st Attorney General of New Hampshire since 2021. He previously served as legal counsel for Governor Chris Sununu. Early life and career Formella was born in Rochester, Minnesota, to John and Nancy Formella. He has been a resident of New Hampshire since 1999, when his family relocated to New Hampshire from Florida. He attended Florida State University from 2004 to 2009, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in English Literature and later an M.S. in Applied American Politics and Policy. David Souter
David Hackett Souter ( ; September 17, 1939 – May 8, 2025) was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1990 until his retirement in 2009. Warren Rudman
Warren Bruce Rudman (May 18, 1930November 19, 2012) was an American attorney and politician who served as a United States Senator from New Hampshire from 1980 to 1993. A member of the Republican Party, he was known as a moderate centrist, to such an extent that President Clinton approached him in 1994 about replacing departing Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen in Clinton's cabinet, an offer that Rudman declined. After two terms in office, Rudman chose not to run for re-election in 1992. At the time of his death, he was a co-chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a retired partner in the international law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, as well as an advisory board member of Promontory Financial Group.
