"New Friend Request" is a song by American rap rock band Gym Class Heroes, released as the second single from their third studio album, ''As Cruel as School Children'' (2006). The single was released on 23 October in the UK and was the band's second consecutive single to be a non-chart qualifier as both physical formats contained a sticker, which is against UK chart rules regarding promotional pack-ins. A remix, produced by Hi-Tek, is featured on the soundtrack album '' Snakes on a Plane: The Album''. Music video The music video for "New Friend Request" is a MySpace-themed video. It has people that are depicted as "friends" on MySpace, and Travis McCoy has to add friends on his MySpace page. Gym Class Heroes was an American rap rock band from Geneva, New York. The group formed in 1997 when Travie McCoy met drummer Matt McGinley during their high school gym class. The band's music displays a wide variety of influences, including hip hop, rock, funk, and reggae. After the addition of guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo and bassist Eric Roberts in 2003, the group was signed to Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance Records (Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz's independent record label), on which they released their debut album, ''The Papercut Chronicles''. Shamele Mackie (born March 5, 1978), known professionally as Papoose (), is an American rapper. Known for his freestyles and prolific mixtape output, Papoose began his career in 1998 and has released four studio albums and 29 mixtapes. Tony Louis Cottrell (born May 5, 1976), better known as Hi-Tek, is an American rapper and music producer from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is best known for his work with Talib Kweli. His father is singer Willie Cottrell of the Willie Cottrell Band, whom Hi-Tek featured on his second album, '' Hi-Teknology 2''. Career 1996–2000 Hi-Tek grew up in the West End, Cincinnati. He started his career with hip hop group Mood and had a regional hit with "Hustle on the Side". That song was made for Mood's album ''Doom'', which featured amongst others Brooklyn MC Talib Kweli.
