New England News Collaborative
The New England News Collaborative (NENC) is a 10-station consortium of public media newsrooms located throughout New England. NENC produced ''NEXT'', a show about New England with WNPR. The final episode of the show was broadcast on May 27, 2021. NENC was formed with a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 2016. Connecticut Public Radio, commonly known as WNPR, is a network of public radio stations in the state of Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and East End (Long Island), eastern Long Island, affiliated with NPR (National Public Radio). It is owned by Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, which also owns Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB; stylized as cpb) is an American publicly funded non-profit corporation, created in 1967 to promote and help support public broadcasting. The Public's Radio (TPR) is a non-commercial, listener-supported, public radio network that is the NPR member for the state of Rhode Island. It carries news, talk and information programs on several FM frequencies and one AM station. The Maine Public Broadcasting Network (abbreviated MPBN and branded as Maine Public) is a network of public television and radio stations located in the U.S. state of Maine. It is operated by the Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation, which holds the licenses for all the PBS and NPR stations licensed in the state. New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is the National Public Radio member network serving the state of New Hampshire. NHPR is based in Concord and operates eight transmitters and six translators covering nearly the whole state, as well as portions of Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine. The network airs NPR news and talk shows on weekdays and a mix of cultural and music programs on weekends. NHPR's news staff of 21 is one of the largest in the state and is the only statewide source of radio news. WSHU (1260 AM), is an NPR member radio station licensed to Westport, Connecticut. It is owned and operated by Sacred Heart University. By day, WSHU is powered at 1,000 watts using a directional antenna. However, at night, to avoid interference with other stations on 1260 AM, it reduces power to nine watts, effectively limiting its nighttime footprint to the area immediately around Westport. Programming is also heard on 150-watt FM translator W276DY at 103.1 MHz in Westport. WFCR (88.5 FM) is a non-commercial radio station licensed to Amherst, Massachusetts. It serves as the National Public Radio (NPR) member station for Western Massachusetts, including Springfield. The station operates at 13,000 watts ERP from a transmitter on Mount Lincoln in Pelham, Massachusetts, above average terrain. The University of Massachusetts Amherst holds the license.
