Nevis Radio
Nevis Community Radio Ltd (Nevis Radio) is a community radio station broadcasting from Fort William in Scotland, serving the communities of Fort William and the surrounding region of Lochaber including Fort Augustus, Mallaig, Glen Coe, Kinlochleven and parts of the Isle of Skye. Nevis Radio is a registered charity with OSCR No. SC044464. Nevis Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day from its base in the Ben Nevis Industrial Estate, Fort William, with original local programming for part of the day, and automated repeats and music service at other times. The station started out in 1992 as Ski FM from the Nevis Range ski resort, keeping skiers up to date with conditions on Aonach Mor. This was then followed by Holiday FM during the summer. Those behind the station's trial broadcasts soon realized that Lochaber needed a permanent voice on the radio, and Nevis Community Radio Action Group formed to raise funds to establish a full-time local radio station (this group has now ceased). Fort William, Highland
Fort William ( gd, An Gearasdan ; "The Garrison") formerly ( gd, Baile Mairi) and ( gd, Gearasdan dubh Inbhir-Lochaidh) (Lit. "The Black Garrison of Inverlochy"), ( sco, The Fort), formerly ( sco, Maryburgh) is a town in Lochaber in the Scottish Highlands, located on the eastern shore of Loch Linnhe. At the 2011 census, Fort William had a population of 10,459, making it the second largest settlement in both the Highland council area, and the whole of the Scottish Highlands; only the city of Inverness has a larger population. Scottish Six Days Trial
The Scottish Six Days Trial is an internationally recognised Motorcycle trials competition, which has been running since 1909 (with breaks for the two world wars) making it the oldest motorcycle trials event in the world. Motorcycle riders from all over the world compete in this extreme sport, covering as much as 100 miles a day on road and off-road routes around Lochaber on each of the six days. The event is a trial of the skill, consistency and endurance of the riders, as well as a test of the specialised motorcycles used. Two Lochs Radio
Two Lochs Radio is Britain's smallest commercial radio station, and community broadcaster for the Gairloch, Loch Ewe and Loch Maree areas of Wester Ross, in the Highlands of Scotland. The station broadcasts in stereo on 106.0 and 106.6MHz FM. It also sustains the Lochbroom FM service for the Ullapool and Coigach areas on 96.8 and 102.2MHz FM. For about 60 hours per week the station broadcasts programmes produced by volunteer presenters and partner stations, with the remaining airtime occupied by Smooth Scotland during the day and Magic or Smooth Scotland overnight. The station operates on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of the community, and is dependent on advertising, local fundraising and donors for its continuing existence. Ullapool
Ullapool (; gd, Ulapul ) is a village and port located in Northern Scotland. Ullapool has a population of around 1,500 inhabitants. It is located around northwest of Inverness in Ross and Cromarty, Scottish Highlands. Despite its modest size, it is the largest settlement for many miles around, and an important port and tourist destination. The North Atlantic Drift passes Ullapool, moderating the temperature. Lochbroom FM
Lochbroom FM was a radio station based in Ullapool, Wester Ross in the Highlands of Scotland that broadcast 1995-2020 and which was Britain's smallest radio station. The station now broadcasts as 'Radio Wester Ross' across the area after a rebrand to unite the broadcast areas of Two Lochs Radio and Lochbroom FM. A community radio association was formed in 1994. They broadcast in 1995 using a three-month temporary commercial radio licence from a small tin shack with a transmission radius of 20 miles. A further two-month licence let them broadcast in 1996, and then a full eight-year licence came into operation at the end of May 1997. A purpose-built station was proposed, which was to be funded through a variety of grants. In 1996, it was announced that they had secured £45,000 of lottery funding towards the purchase and fitting out of a new building. Lochbroom FM launched on 23 May 1997.
