Nevada State Senate
The Nevada Senate is the upper house of the Nevada Legislature, the state legislature (United States), state legislature of U.S. state of Nevada, the lower house being the Nevada Assembly. It currently (2012–2021) consists of 21 members from single-member districts. In the previous redistricting (2002–2011) there were 19 districts, two of which were multimember. Since 2012, there have been 21 districts, each formed by combining two neighboring state assembly districts. Each state senator represented approximately 128,598 as of the 2010 United States census. Article Four of the Constitution of Nevada sets that state senators serve staggered four-year terms. In addition, the size of the Senate is set to be no less than one-third and no greater than one-half of the size of the Assembly. Nicole Cannizzaro
Nicole Jeanette Cannizzaro (born January 19, 1983) is an American Democratic Party (United States), Democratic politician currently serving in the Nevada Senate. She represents the Nevada's 6th Senate district, 6th district, which covers parts of Las Vegas. Cannizzaro is the first woman to serve as Majority Leader of the Nevada Senate. Biography Cannizzaro was born in Las Vegas. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2006, and a Juris Doctor from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2010. Following graduation, she worked as a legal clerk and then began practicing law in Las Vegas. The Nevada Legislature is the bicameral state legislature of the U.S. state of Nevada, consisting of the Nevada Assembly (lower house with 42 members) and the Nevada Senate (upper house with 21 members). Frank Grant Sawyer (December 14, 1918 – February 19, 1996) was an American politician. He was the List of Governors of Nevada, 21st Governor of Nevada from 1959 to 1967. He was a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. Early life Sawyer was born on December 14, 1918, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the son of two osteopaths, Harry William Sawyer, Harry William and Bula Belle Cameron Sawyer. Sawyer's father was also a state legislator in Nevada. Sawyer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Bette Norene Hoge on August 1, 1946. Education Sawyer attended Linfield College for two years and later enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he graduated in 1941. Flora Turchinsky Dungan (1917 – October 25, 1973) was an American activist and politician from Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born in Minnesota; her parents were immigrants from Russia. In 1933 she graduated from Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles, California. In 1936 she completed a program at Los Angeles Junior College and transferred to University of California at Berkeley, where she graduated with honors and a degree in Psychology in 1938. In 1939 she completed a one year course in Social Service, also at Berkeley. She initially worked in child welfare services but during World War II she found work as an accountant. She continued in this profession through her and her husband's move to Las Vegas in 1948. That same year she and her husband divorced. She kept the name Dungan professionally until her death. The Territory of Nevada (N.T.) was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from March 2, 1861, until October 31, 1864, when it was admitted to the Union as the State of Nevada.
