Nesrin Baş
Nesrin Baş (born 25 June 2002) is a Turkish freestyle wrestler competing in the 68 kg division. She is a member of Beşiktaş J.K. She won the gold medal at the 2024 European Wrestling Championships. Career In 2021, Nesrin Baş won a bronze medal in the women's 68 kg event at the 2021 World Junior Wrestling Championships in Russia, behind gold medal winner Amit Elor of the United States and silver medal winner Elizaveta Petliakova of Russia. She competed in the 68 kg event at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. She won the gold medal in her event at the 2023 European U23 Wrestling Championships held in Bucharest, Romania. She won the gold medal in the women's 68kg event at the 2022 U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Pontevedra, Spain. The 2023 U23 World Wrestling Championships was the sixth edition of the U23 World Wrestling Championships of combined events and was held from 23 to 29 October 2023 in Tirana, Albania. United World Wrestling (UWW) authorized some Russian wrestlers to participate in the World Championships though they had participated in the pro-war rally and expressed their support for the Russo-Ukrainian war. UWW explained its decision to clear them for the World Championships by stating that their participation in certain events was not of their own will and their support for the war and the policy of their government could not be certainly concluded. The 2023 European U23 Wrestling Championships was the 8th edition of the European U23 Wrestling Championships of combined events, and it was held from 13 to 19 March in Bucharest, Romania. Incidents The Azerbaijani wrestler, Rahim Hasanov, hit the Armenian athlete, Karapet Manvelyan, in the face after losing in the quarter-finals of the championship, when the latter was reaching out to him for a handshake. The International Wrestling Federation disqualified Hasanov for unsportsmanlike behaviour. In the match between Solomon Manashvili of Georgia and Vakhit Galayev of Azerbaijan, the referees showed red cards to both wrestlers and disqualified them after a fight broke out after the end of the match.
