The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Årnes. Name The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old ''Nes'' farm (Old Norse: ''Nes'' which means "headland"), since the first church was built here. The actual ''nes'' is the headland made by the two great rivers Glomma and Vorma, which have their Confluence, meeting point just south of the farm. Prior to 1889, the name was spelled ''"Næs"''. This list of churches in Tunsberg is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Tunsberg in Norway. It includes all of the parishes in Buskerud and Vestfold counties. The diocese is based at the Tønsberg Cathedral in the city of Tønsberg (town), Tønsberg in Tønsberg Municipality, Vestfold county. The diocese was formally established in 1948 when it was separated from the large Diocese of Oslo, although the occupation government during World War II also temporarily established the diocese of Tunsberg from 1942 to 1945, but that was not recognized by the King or the government-in-exile during the war. Nes Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Gran Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Røykenvik. It is the church for the Brandbu parish which is part of the Hadeland og Land prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. Høyjord Stave Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sandefjord Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It is located in the village of Høyjord. It is the church for the Høyjord parish which is part of the Sandefjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Tunsberg.
