Nerve (band)
Nerve is an American, New York based band, founded by the drummer Jojo Mayer. History From the 1990s, Jojo Mayer participated actively in party events called "Prohibited Beatz" which was a platform for experimental interaction with DJ's and many kind of artists. The band Nerve initially emerged from these parties, described as an "endeavor in reverse engineering the textures and rhythms of the current stream of computer generated music into a live performed, improvisational format". While the line-up of musicians in Nerve was initially fluid, it solidified in the early 2000s around Jojo Mayer, Takuya Nakamura, John Davis and Roli Mosimann, and then again in 2014 around Mayer, Davis, Jacob Bergson and Aaron Nevezie. In 2016, Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen produced and televised a documentary film which chronicles several Nerve concerts in Zurich, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong, and which features interview footage with Mayer and others pertaining to the origins and history of Nerve ... Jojo Mayer
Sergé "Jojo" Mayer (born 18 January 1963) is a Swiss drummer born in Zürich and currently residing in New York City. Mayer is the son of touring musician and bass player Vali Mayer and the brother of actress Delia Mayer. He began his career as a drummer at an early age, receiving his first drum set at the age of two. Having taught himself throughout his childhood, he broke out into the professional music scene at the age of 18, joining the Monty Alexander group. Touring with the group launched him into the major jazz music scene, and he has played at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux, Nice, and Athens etc., which culminated with his gigging with jazz-greats such as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone. Janek Gwizdala (born 19 November 1978) is an English jazz bassist. Biography Gwizdala initially preferred drums, but switched to bass guitar after hearing Laurence Cottle. Gwizdala later moved to the U.S. to attend Berklee College of Music. Recordings as a leader ''Mystery to Me'', released in 2004, was recorded at Manhattan Center Studios in front of an audience in one take. Roli Mosimann (7 November 1955 – 15 September 2024) was a Swiss-born American drummer, electronic musician, and record producer who worked in genres ranging from industrial to pop. Originally from Switzerland, Mosimann first came to attention with the New York City no wave band Swans and later collaborated with Foetus leader JG Thirlwell in the duo Wiseblood. Mosimann was born in Thurgau, Switzerland on 7 November 1955. As a producer, Mosimann worked with That Petrol Emotion, the Young Gods, the The, Celtic Frost, New Order and the Hair and Skin Trading Company, and helped birth Faith No More's '' Album of the Year'', among others.
