Sound (geography)
In geography, a sound is a smaller body of water usually connected to a sea or an ocean. A ''sound'' may be an inlet that is deeper than a bight and wider than a fjord; or a narrow sea channel or an ocean channel between two land masses, such as a strait; or also a lagoon between a barrier island and the mainland. Overview A sound is often formed by the seas flooding a river valley. This produces a long inlet where the sloping valley hillsides descend to sea-level and continue beneath the water to form a sloping sea floor. These sounds are more appropriately called rias. Caamaño Sound
Caamaño Sound () is a sound on the coast of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It extends east from Hecate Strait. Princess Royal Island, Rennison Island, and Aristazabal Island lie to the south of the sound. Several islands lie to the north, including Campania Island and the Estevan Group of islands. Caamaño Sound connects with various waterways including Estevan Sound, Campania Sound, Nepean Sound and Laredo Channel. The Estevan Group, formerly the Estevan Islands, is a small archipelago in the Hecate Strait region of the North Coast of British Columbia, Canada. It is to the west of Campania Island, which is separated from the group by Estevan Sound, and is itself to the west of Gil Island across Squally Channel.
