Neofit Of Bulgaria
Patriarch Neophyte (; secular name: Simeon Nikolov Dimitrov; ; 15 October 1945 – 13 March 2024) was the Patriarch of All Bulgaria, head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church from 24 February 2013 until his death on 13 March 2024. Prior to his election, he was the Metropolitan Bishop of Ruse, Bulgaria, Ruse (2001–2013) and Bishop of Dorostol and Cherven, Ruse Province, Cherven (1994–2001). Biography After completing his primary education in the fall of 1959, Dimitrov was accepted as a student at the Sofia Theological Seminary in Cherepish Monastery, and completed his studies in 1965. In 1971 he graduated from the Sofia Theological Academy of St. Clement of Ohrid, and later trained in church singing at the Moscow Theological Academy. Neofit II
Neophyte II (, secular name Neofit Gianoglu, ; 1 January 1787 – 14 January 1850) was the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Ungro-Wallachia (1840–1849), and a participant in the Wallachian Revolution of 1848. Biography He was born in Bucharest in 1787. He was ordained hierodeacon in 1818, hieromonk on 29 March 1824 and archimandrite on 5 April 1824. He became Abbot of the Sfântul Gheorghe Nou Monastery in Bucharest, was elected Bishop of Râmnicu on 18 April 1824, and on 20 April he was ordained bishop by Gregory IV, the Teacher, Metropolitan of Ungro-Wallachia. He agreed to be vicar of the Metropolitanate from February 1829 to 22 August 1833, while Gregory IV was exiled in Russia and also after his death on 22 June between 1834 and 1840. From 29 June 1840 to 27 July 1849, he was officially appointed Metropolitan of Ungro-Wallachia. The Wallachian Revolution of 1848 was a Romanian liberal and nationalist uprising in the Principality of Wallachia. Part of the Revolutions of 1848, and closely connected with the unsuccessful revolt in the Principality of Moldavia, it sought to overturn the administration imposed by Imperial Russian authorities under the '' Regulamentul Organic'' regime, and, through many of its leaders, demanded the abolition of boyar privilege. Led by a group of young intellectuals and officers in the Wallachian Militia, the movement succeeded in toppling the ruling Prince Gheorghe Bibescu, whom it replaced with a provisional government and a regency, and in passing a series of major progressive reforms, announced in the Proclamation of Islaz. Neofit Bozveli
Neofit Bozveli () (c. 1785 – 4 June 1848) was a Bulgarian cleric and enlightener and one of the leaders of the Bulgarian Church struggle. He was born in the lively sub-Balkan town of Kotel. Bozveli completed his basic education there and may well have been a student of Sophronius of Vratsa. He continued his education afterwards, then joined the Hilandar monastery on Mount Athos as a monk around 1803-1805. Towards 1813-1814 he settled in Svishtov, where he worked as an Eastern Orthodox priest and a teacher and began his enlightening activity by writing the ''Slavenobolgarskoe Detevodstvo'' pedagogical textbook in 1835. In this book, Bozveli spoke for secular education, for the enforcement of spoken Bulgarian in the schools and for the establishment of public Bulgarian schools. Neofit Rilski () or Neophyte of Rila (born Nikola Poppetrov Benin; 1793 – January 4, 1881) was a 19th-century Bulgarian monk, teacher and artist, and an important figure of the Bulgarian National Revival. Biography He was born in the southwestern town of Bansko (or possibly in the village of Guliyna Banya) of Pirin Macedonia. Benin was educated to become a teacher, initially by his father Petar, and later at the Rila Monastery, where he studied iconography and had access to Greek and Church Slavonic books. He went to Melnik in 1822, where he spent four years as a student of the noted teacher Adam and perfected his Greek and Greek literature knowledge. Initially working as a teacher in the Rila Monastery, he also spent time working in Samokov (1827–1831), then back in the monastery, then went to Gabrovo and Koprivshtitsa (1835–1839) and returned to the monastery as a teacher to join the theological school on the island of Halki, where he spent four and a half years. ...
