Nelson Barrera
Nelson Barrera Romellón (17 October 1957 – 14 July 2002) was a Mexican professional baseball player, who at the time of his death led the Mexican League in career home runs (455) and RBIs (1,927). He was nicknamed ''El Almirante'' (The Admiral). Early life Barrera was born in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche on 17 October 1957. Career A right-hander hitter and a native of the Mexican state of Campeche, Barrera entered the Mexican League in 1977 with the Diablos Rojos del México after playing three years in the Mexican Central League. He hit only .235 as a rookie, with two home runs, but he continued to improve. He broke 20 home runs, hitting .354 with 101 RBI in 1984. This earned him a look by the Chicago White Sox, who placed him on their AAA Buffalo Bisons American Association team. He hit just .176 with two homers in 74 at bats, and was cut by the Bisons. The Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame () was established in 1996 by Juan Francisco Puello Herrera, commissioner of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CPBC). The Salón de la Fama del Beisbol Mexicano (in English, Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame), commonly called the Salón de la Fama (Hall of Fame) is a baseball hall of fame and museum located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, inaugurated on 10 March 1973. It is dedicated to recognizing people who have contributed greatly to baseball in Mexico. It had its first five inductees in 1939. Estadio Nelson Barrera Romellón is a stadium in Campeche, Mexico. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Piratas de Campeche (Campeche Pirates) Mexican League baseball team. It holds 4,190 people. It is named for Campeche native and Mexican League home run and RBI record setter Nelson Barrera. It was built in the same location as the former Estadio Venustiano Carranza (originally built 28 December 1958), which had served as the home field for the Pirates from 1980 through 1997. The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (English: Two Laredos Owls), formerly known as the Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo (English: Nuevo Laredo Owls), are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League. Nick Cullop (outfielder)
Henry Nicholas Cullop (October 16, 1900 – December 8, 1978) was an American outfielder in Major League Baseball during the 1920s and 1930s. Cullop was better known, however, as a feared batsman in minor league baseball and as a longtime manager at the minor league level. He is the all-time minor league RBI king. Cullop was nicknamed "Tomato Face" because his face turned bright red whenever he got angry. He is not related to pitcher Nick Cullop.
