Neil Reid (born 1959) is a Scottish people, Scottish former child singing celebrity, star, winner of ITV Network, ITV's ''Opportunity Knocks (UK TV series), Opportunity Knocks,'' and the youngest person to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart. Career Known also as "Wee Neil Reid", he was eight when he was discovered singing at a pensioners' party in 1968. Reid won ''Opportunity Knocks'' on 13 December 1971 singing his version of "Mother of Mine (song), Mother of Mine", which, when released commercially by Decca Records shortly afterwards, went to number two on the UK Singles Chart following a performance on ''Top of the Pops.'' The "Mother of Mine" gramophone record, record sold over 250,000 copies in the United Kingdom, and over 2.5 million globally. It also sold around 400,000 copies in Japan alone. ''Opportunity Knocks'' is a British television and radio talent show originally hosted by Hughie Green, with a late-1980s revival hosted by Bob Monkhouse, and later by previous winner Les Dawson. From its origin on BBC Radio in 1949 the show provided a platform to fame for acts such as Spike Milligan and Frankie Vaughan. One of the most popular shows on British television, in the 1960s and 1970s it had a weekly audience of 20 million viewers. The original radio version started on the BBC Light Programme, where it ran from 18 February to 29 September 1949, but moved to Radio Luxembourg in the 1950s. It was shown on ITV from 20 June 1956 to 29 August 1956, produced by Associated Rediffusion. "When I'm Sixty-Four" is a song by the English rock band The Beatles, written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney) and released on the 1967 album '' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band''. It was one of the first songs McCartney wrote; he was about 14, probably in April or May 1956. The song was recorded in a different key from the final version; it was sped up at McCartney's request to make his voice sound younger.
