Neige (musician)
Stéphane Hugues Norbert Paut, known professionally as Neige ( French: "Snow") (born 16 April 1985), is a French songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist musician, and record producer from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, now relocated to Paris. He is the primary songwriter, guitarist, lead vocalist, and the only continuous member of the post-black metal band Alcest and is the former guitarist, bass guitarist, and drummer of the post-punk/ post-black metal band Amesoeurs. Career Neige quickly started to gain public recognition for his involvement as a vocalist, drummer and live rhythm guitarist for French black metal band Peste Noire at the beginning of the 2000s. At the same time, Peste Noire bandleader Famine was also the lead guitarist on the first Alcest demo, ''Tristesse hivernale''. Neige has since condemned his tenure with Peste Noire, citing his disagreements with the band's far-right views and racist imagery. Bagnols-sur-Cèze
Bagnols-sur-Cèze (, "Bagnols-on-Cèze"; ) is a Communes of France, commune in the Gard Departments of France, department in the Occitania (administrative region), Occitania Regions of France, region in Southern France. History A small regional centre, Bagnols-sur-Cèze was quite certainly a Roman town (the name of the town comes from the Latin meaning "related to baths, bathing-place") before the main part was built in the 13th century around a central arcaded square that is still preserved today. ''Alcest / Les Discrets'' (or ''Les Discrets / Alcest'') is a split EP by French shoegazing bands Alcest and Les Discrets, released on November 30, 2009, by Prophecy Productions. This is the release debut of Les Discrets; its leader Fursy Teyssier have previously worked with Alcest leader Neige numerous times, either as musician or cover artist. ''Les Chants de l'aurore'' () is the seventh studio album by French post-black metal band Alcest, released on 21 June 2024 by Nuclear Blast. The album was supported by the singles "L'Envol" and "Flamme jumelle". The album received generally positive reviews from critics, and debuted at number 77 in France. ''Kodama'' (Japanese for "tree spirit" or "echo") is the fifth studio album by French post-black metal band Alcest. It was released on September 30, 2016 via Prophecy Productions. It is a concept album about "the confrontation of the natural world and the human world", inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's film ''Princess Mononoke.'' Musically the album is a return to the band's earlier blackgaze style, due to Neige's feeling that he "needed to go for something more punchy, darker, and more personal." The album's title is related to its overall concept of shelter, "a safe place to escape, this secret thing we all have when life is going too fast and you are full of anxiety." An edited version of the song "Autre temps" was released as a single alongside an accompanying music video. The album was described as a musical synthesis of the previous two albums, blending shoegaze, post-rock, and black metal influences. Writing and musical style ''The New York Times'' described the album's sound as "a kind of slow, pretty, gauzy metal, with highly managed guitar distortion, cathedral reverb and high, clear voices, except for when Neige sings in a barbed scream." Tristesse Hivernale
''Tristesse hivernale'' (English: "Wintry Sadness") is a demo and release debut of French band Alcest, released in 2001 on Drakkar Productions. It is their only release with guitarist Aegnor and bass guitarist Argoth, both from Peste Noire (in which Aegnor later changed his alias to Famine), as the band's creator, Neige, would continue Alcest as a one-man project after the release. It remains the band's only release as a trio. Unlike the following albums which would be influenced by shoegaze and post-metal, ''Tristesse hivernale'' is oriented towards traditional black metal with a raw sound and harsh vocals. Les Discrets
Les Discrets is a French post-rock project created and led by Fursy Teyssier as a "platform gathering music and art." Teyssier was the sole member of the band until 2009, when he was joined by Audrey Hadorn and Winterhalter. Les Discrets released ''Septembre et Ses Dernières Pensées'' in March 2010, '' Ariettes oubliées...'' in February 2012. Winterhalter left the band in 2013 to focus on his duties for Alcest. The band's third album '' Prédateurs'', was released in April 2017, which saw a transition towards an indie rock and trip hop-oriented sound. The band considers its name to mean "Those who keep silent", although "The Discreet Ones" would be more an accurate translation.
