Nehme () is a prominent Lebanese surname which is derived from the given name Nehme (given name), Nehme. As of 2014, Nehme is the 39th most common surname in Lebanon with about 13,000 people holding the surname, or about one in 380 people. Etymology and history The name derives from the Arabic word for “blessing” or “grace”. The Nehme family is believed to stem from the Daou family tree with one of its sons, Nehme Daou, as the father of all Nehme families within the Levant. Lehfed, a small village near Byblos in the Byblos District, Byblos district of modern-day Lebanon, is believed to be the ancestral home of the Nehme family. Stephen Nehmé
Esțfān Nehmé (born Yūsuf Nehmé, ; 8 March 1889 – 30 August 1938), was a Lebanese Maronite professed religious from the Lebanese Maronite Order. Nehmé worked to alleviate people's pain during World War I through the distribution of food to those suffering from famine and was known for an intense devotion to the Mother of God. He worked in the fields of his convent and other monasteries and also worked in construction for a brief period, he became well known and other monasteries sought him to live with them for his spiritual insight and work ethic. Nehmé was beatified on 27 June 2010 in Lebanon. Life Yūsuf Nehmé was born on 8 March 1889 in Lehfed in Lebanon as the last of seven children to Estephanos Bou Haykal Nehmé and Christina Badawi Hanna Khaled. Raoul Nehme
Raoul Nehme (; born January 20, 1956) served as the Lebanese minister of economy and trade from 2020 to 2021. Life Nehme went to school at Collège Notre Dame de Jamhour and studied in France at the Ecole Polytechnique (engineering with a major in economics) and Mines ParisTech (engineering with a major in scientific management). Laïla Nehmé
Laïla Nehmé (born 1966) is a Lebanese-French archaeologist. A specialist in the archaeology and epigraphy of the ancient Near East, she is known for her research on Nabataean writings, the evolution of the Nabataean script into the Arabic, and archaeological excavations at Petra and Mada'in Saleh. Early life Laïla Nehmé was born in Beirut, Lebanon, where she attended high school. A meeting with a restorer of ceramics from a dig in northern Lebanon prompted her to seek higher studies in archaeology. Nehmé attended the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, where Jean-Marie Dentzer guided her research between 1991 and 1994. She wrote her doctoral thesis on Petra in 1994. Angelo Luca Nehmé (born 23 January 2004) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder or winger for Danish 2nd Division club Næstved Boldklub, on loan from AC Horsens. Abraham Nehmé, BC or Ibrahim Naameh (8 October 1927 – 9 December 2022) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Homs in Syria.
