"Need All My Friends" is a song written and performed by southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. The song was recorded in May 1969 and released the same year by Shade Tree Records. The song is considered to be the first song the band recorded, with their name spelled as "Lynard Skynard" on the release. The song was never released on a studio album until 2000 when MCA records released the double CD compilation of rarities called Collectybles. According to the Goldmine Price Guide to 45 RPM Records, "approximately 300 copies erepressed". Another version (also included on Collectybles) was recorded in 1970 at Quinvy Studios as part of the "Quinvy Demo" that the band cut before heading to Muscle Shoals Sound Studios to record with Jimmie Johnston. Lynyrd Skynyrd (, ) is an American Rock music, rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964. The group originally formed as My Backyard and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass), and Bob Burns (drummer), Bob Burns (drums). The band spent four years touring small venues under various names and with several lineup changes before deciding on "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in 1968. ''Collectybles'' is a compilation album by the American Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, released on November 21, 2000. The two disc set includes early demo recordings, live versions and studio tracks, some previously unreleased. Tracks 2 & 3 of disc 1, "Need all my Friends" and (b/w) "Michelle" were recorded in 1968 and 1969 respectively (ST101 and ST102) intended as a single under the moniker LYNARD SKYNARD, making these the only 2 recordings ever released under a different band name. Gregg Allman
Gregory LeNoir Allman (December 8, 1947 – May 27, 2017) was an American musician, singer and songwriter. He was known for performing in the Allman Brothers Band. Allman grew up with an interest in rhythm and blues music, and the Allman Brothers Band fused it with rock music, jazz, and country music, country. Ronald Wayne Van Zant (January 15, 1948 – October 20, 1977) was an American singer, best known as the founding lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gary Rossington
Gary Robert Rossington (December 4, 1951 – March 5, 2023) was an American musician best known as a founding guitarist of Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, with whom he performed until his death. Rossington was also a founding member of the Rossington Collins Band, along with former bandmate Allen Collins. Rossington was both the longest-serving and last surviving original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd by the time of his death. Early life Rossington was born in Jacksonville, Florida. His mother recalled that he had a strong childhood interest in baseball and aspired as a child to one day play for the New York Yankees. Larkin Allen Collins Jr. (July 19, 1952 – January 23, 1990) was an American guitarist, and one of the founding members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Robert Lewis Burns Jr. (November 24, 1950 – April 3, 2015) was an American drummer who was in the original lineup of the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Biography Burns was born in Gainesville, Florida, on November 24, 1950. He helped to form Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1964 with Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Larry Junstrom and remained until 1974, although by some accounts he left the band for a while during the early 1970s.
