Nedzhmi Ali
Nedzhmi Ali (; born 16 July 1972 in Dzhebel, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian politician of Bulgarian-Turkish descent and Member of the European Parliament (MEP). He is a member of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. Biography Ali became a Member of the European Parliament of 2004–9 with effect from 1 January 2007 upon the accession of Bulgaria to the European Union. In 2013 he was appointed to the post of Bulgarian Vice-minister of Defence. In May 2014 he returned to the European Parliament as an elected MEP. Dzhebel
Dzhebel or Djebel ( , , formerly: Şeyhcuma) is a town in Kardzhali Province, southern Bulgaria. It has 3,312 inhabitants. Dzhebel is the administrative center of a municipality, which apart from Dzhebel itself, contains 47 other villages and has a population of 9,093. The municipality is mainly populated by ethnic Turks, which are more than 75% of the total population. The word Dzhebel derives from the Arabic word "جبل (jabal)" which means "mountain". The European Parliament (EP) is one of the two legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Movement For Rights And Freedoms
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms ( ''Dvizhenie za prava i svobodi'', ДПС, DPS; , HÖH) is a political party in Bulgaria with a support base among ethnic minority communities. Until 2024 it was a member of the Liberal International and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). While representing the interests of Muslims, especially Turks and to a lesser extent Pomaks (Muslim Bulgarians), the party also receives the largest share of Romani votes. History The party was officially established in 1990, with its founder Ahmed Dogan serving as its leader until 2013.
