''Terra Obscura'' is a 2003 comic book miniseries spin-off from Alan Moore's '' Tom Strong'' series. The stories are written by Peter Hogan, and drawn by Yanick Paquette and Karl Story with additional flashback sequences drawn by Eric Theriault. Each story is co-plotted by Alan Moore and Peter Hogan. It was published under Moore's America's Best Comics imprint through WildStorm, which is owned by DC Comics. Black Terror
The Black Terror is a fictional comic book superhero debuting in ''Exciting Comics'' #9, published by Nedor Comics in January 1941. The character was popular and, on the strength of the Black Terror's sales, Nedor made ''Exciting Comics'' a monthly magazine starting with issue #11 (July 1941). The Black Terror was the most popular superhero in Nedor's stable, and appeared in a quarterly solo comic book as well as the lead feature in ''America's Best Comics'' and ''Exciting Comics'' until 1949. Some Black Terror stories were written by Patricia Highsmith before she became an acclaimed novelist. The American Eagle is a superhero from the Golden Age of Comics. He first appeared in ''America's Best Comics'' #2 (Sept 1942), published by Nedor Comics, an imprint of Standard Comics. American Eagle was revived by two other comics publishers: first AC Comics, and then by America's Best Comics, by writer Alan Moore as part of his '' Tom Strong'' comics and its spin-off '' Terra Obscura''. Nedor Comics American Eagle was the secret identity of scientist Tom Standish. While performing experiments for the US government, he was accidentally exposed to a mysterious black ray infused with the blood of an eagle. The ray gave him the powers of the bald eagle — flight, strength and (of course) patriotism. Standish used his powers to fight the Nazis and other enemies during World War II. Captain Future is a fictional superhero character (not to be confused with Captain Future, the pulp magazine character of the same name) who first appeared in ''Startling Comics'' #1 (June 1940) from Nedor Comics. Publishing history Captain Future appeared in issues #1-40 of ''Startling Comics'' (June 1940 - July 1946). He also appeared in several issues of ''America's Best Comics''. Project Superpowers
''Project Superpowers'' is a comic book limited series published by Dynamite Entertainment beginning January 2008. It was co-plotted by Jim Krueger and Alex Ross, with scripts by Jim Krueger, covers by Alex Ross, and interior art by Doug Klauba and Stephen Sadowski for issue #0, and Carlos Paul for the remainder of the series. Ross is also art director, which includes sketched pages, color guides, and redesigns of most of the characters. The American Crusader is a superhero who originally appeared in '' Thrilling Comics'' #19 ( Better Publications, Aug 1941). He appeared in almost every issue until #41 (April 1944). Thrilling Publications, also known as Beacon Magazines (1936–37), Better Publications (1937–43) and Standard Magazines (1943–55), was a pulp magazine publisher run by Ned Pines, publishing such titles as ''Startling Stories'' and ''Thrilling Wonder Stories''. Popular Library is a New York paperback book company established in 1942 by Leo Margulies and Ned Pines, who at the time were major pulp magazine and newspaper publishers. The company's logo of a pine tree was a tribute to Pines, and another Popular Library signature visual was a reduced black-and-white copy of the front cover on the title page. A native of Malden, Massachusetts, Pines became the president of Pines Publications in 1928 and continued to lead the company until 1961. He was the president of Popular Library from 1942 to 1966 and its chairman from 1966 to 1968. Retiring in 1971, he continued to work as a consultant. ''Tom Strong'' is an American comic book series created by writer Alan Moore and artist Chris Sprouse, initially published bi-monthly by America's Best Comics, an imprint of DC Comics' WildStorm division.
