Nea Kavala F.C.
Kavala Football Club (, ) is a Greek professional Association football, football club based in the city of Kavala, Greece. They compete in the Super League Greece 2, the second tier of the Greek football league system. The club's home ground is the Anthi Karagianni Stadium. History The club was formed in 1965 from the merger of Phillipoi Kavala, Iraklis Kavala and A.E. Kavala. They have had a few runs in the top division of the Greek League. They were promoted to Alpha Ethniki for the first time in 1969 and stayed up for six years (Alpha Ethniki 1969-70, 1970 through Alpha Ethniki 1974-75, 1975). They returned to the top division in 1976 and played again for six seasons. In 1982, the club were relegated to the Beta Ethniki (second tier of Greek football). After eleven years in Beta Ethniki and one year in Gamma Ethniki (third tier – 1988–89) they were promoted to Alpha Ethniki. Argonauts
The Argonauts ( ; ) were a band of heroes in Greek mythology, who in the years before the Trojan War (around 1300 BC) accompanied Jason to Colchis in his quest to find the Golden Fleece. Their name comes from their ship, ''Argo'', named after its builder, Argus (Argonaut), Argus. They were sometimes called Minyans, after a prehistoric tribe in the area. Mythology The Golden Fleece After the death of King Cretheus, the Aeolian Pelias usurped the throne from his half-brother Aeson and became king of Iolcus in ancient Thessaly, Thessaly (near the modern city of Volos). Because of this unlawful act, an oracle warned him that a descendant of Aeolus would seek revenge. Pelias put to death every prominent descendant of Aeolus he could, but spared Aeson because of the pleas of their mother Tyro.
