Nazz
The Nazz was an American rock band formed in Philadelphia in 1967. The group was founded by guitarist and main songwriter Todd Rundgren and bassist Carson Van Osten. Drummer Thom Mooney and vocalist/keyboardist Robert "Stewkey" Antoni joined soon after. The group is best known for their debut single "Open My Eyes”, and " Hello It's Me". During 1968 and 1969, the Nazz released two albums ('' Nazz'' and '' Nazz Nazz''). Following the group's disbandment in 1969, a collection of archival recordings was compiled and released under the title '' Nazz III''. Todd Rundgren
Todd Harry Rundgren (born June 22, 1948) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who has performed a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as a member of the bands Nazz and Utopia. He is known for his sophisticated and often unorthodox music, his occasionally lavish stage shows, and his later experiments with interactive art. He also produced music videos and was an early adopter and promoter of various computer technologies, such as using the Internet as a means of music distribution in the late 1990s. ''Nazz Nazz'' is the second studio album by American rock band Nazz, released in April 1969 by SGC Records. The album's recording was marked by bitter artistic disagreements and power struggles among the group, and the Nazz broke up shortly after it was completed. It sold only modestly well upon release but has gained greater attention due to positive critical reappraisals following Nazz guitarist Todd Rundgren's emergence as a star. Recording In January 1969, the Nazz traveled to England to record their second album at Trident Studios. However, after only a day's worth of work, the Musician's Union barred the Nazz from recording in the United Kingdom because the paperwork to allow them to record there had not been filled out properly. Nazz III
''Nazz III'' is the third and final studio album by the American pop rock band Nazz. It was released in 1971 on SGC Records, over a year after the band had broken up, and consists of archival recordings of the band. Background Most of the tracks on the album were recorded in late 1968 and early 1969 for an intended double album, which was eventually pared down to a single album (''Nazz Nazz''). The exception is "Kicks", which was recorded for a compilation album that was cancelled. Drummer Thom Mooney, who retained possession of the master tapes, was contacted by SGC Records in 1970. When he refused to give over the tapes, saying he did not want the material released, SGC threatened legal action, since the tapes were the property of the label. ''Nazz'' is the debut album by American rock group Nazz. It was released in 1968. The album spawned two singles, "Open My Eyes" and "Hello It's Me", with the latter reaching number 66 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. "Open My Eyes" failed to chart but came to be regarded as a psychedelic rock classic, appearing on several compilations of the genre. "Hello It's Me" is a song written by American musician Todd Rundgren. It was the first song he wrote, and was recorded by his group Nazz as a slow ballad, released as the B-side of the band's first single, "Open My Eyes", in 1968. Carson Van Osten
Carson Van Osten (September 24, 1945 – December 22, 2015) was an American comics creator and musician. Early life Van Osten studied at the Philadelphia College of Art. Career Music In 1966, he played in the band Woody's Truck Stop, before forming the rock group Nazz with Todd Rundgren and Thom Mooney in 1967. Van Osten was the band's bass guitarist. He quit Nazz in 1969. Comics Later, Van Osten became a writer and artist of Disney comics. From 1969 to 1976, he created Mickey Mouse and Goofy comics for the publisher Disney Studio, which produced comics for the European market. Starting in 1976, he was art director for Disney's comic strips department in the 1980s. After that, he sporadically worked on new Disney comics, including some covers and the adaptation of the '' Atlantis: The Lost Empire'' film.
