Navrongo Solar Power Station is a solar power plant in Ghana. Location The power station is located near the town of Navrongo, Kassena-Nankana District in the Upper East Region of Ghana. This location lies approximately by road, north of Accra, the country's capital and largest city. Overview Built at a cost of just over US$8 million, the plant is the first grid-ready solar station in the country. It is owned by Volta River Authority (VRA), the Ghanaian parastatal responsible for public electricity generation. The power plant was commissioned in 2013. Kassena-Nankana District is a former district that was located in Upper East Region, Ghana Ghana (; tw, Gaana, ee, Gana), officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country in West Africa. It abuts the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, sharing borders with Ivory Coast in Ghana–Ivory Coast border, the west, Burkina .... The Upper East Region is located in north Ghana and is the third smallest of the 16 administrative regions in Ghana. It occupies a total land surface of 8,842 square kilometers or 2.7 per cent of the total land area of Ghana. The Upper East regional capital is Bolgatanga, sometimes referred to as Bolga. Volta River Authority
The Volta River Authority (VRA) is the main generator and supplier of electricity in Ghana. They are also the responsible for the maintenance of the hydro power supply plant. Establishment The VRA was established by the Volta River Development Act, Act 46 of the Republic of Ghana on 26 April 1961. The main purpose of the VRA is to generate and supply electricity for Ghana's needs. It is also responsible for managing the environmental impact of the creation of the Volta Lake on the towns and people bordering the lake.
