Major Navdeep Singh is an author, lawyer and a former reservist-volunteer of the Indian Territorial Army. Achievements Major Navdeep Singh is a lawyer and the most decorated officer in the history of the Indian Territorial Army, a volunteer force in which gainfully employed and self-employed professionals receive military training for a few days in a year so that in the event of a war or a national emergency they can bear arms for the defence of the nation. Singh is also the youngest person connected with the Territorial Army to have been the recipient of eleven commendations from the defence services, including tri-services institutions. Indian Territorial Army
The Territorial Army (TA) is a military reserve force composed of Part-time job, part-time Military volunteer, volunteers who provide support services to the Indian Army. It consists of Officer (armed forces), officers, junior commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers and other personnel who hold ranks identical to those in the Indian Army, and also maintains civilian occupations. The primary role of the TA is to "relieve the regular army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services" and to "provide units for the regular army as and when required". The Indian Tolls (Army & Air Force) Act, 1901 is a Law enacted by the Parliament of India and introduced by the Ministry of Defence to deal with exemption of toll charges where applicable for regular armed forces including all family members of Indian Armed Forces extending from Indian Army to Central Armed Police Forces. In the wake of new legislation and policy formulation, the act was later revised by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to disassociate the exemptions for family members from the provision of section 3 and 4 and those only "on duty" would be entitled for the exemption and does not pertain to the retired personnel.
