The U.S. Naval Forces Japan/Navy Region Japan (CNFJ/CNRJ) is a dual-hatted command with command and control authority of all shore installations and assigned forces of the United States Navy in Japan as well as the responsibility to liaise with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). It is currently headquartered in Yokosuka, Japan, onboard United States Fleet Activities Yokosuka. CNFJ/CNRJ's area of responsibility extends from the southern tip of the Kamchatka peninsula to the northern tip of Taiwan and, the Singapore area of operations, and the Indian Ocean British Territory of Diego Garcia, but excludes the Korean peninsula. Commander, Navy Installations Command
The Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) is an Echelon II shore command responsible for all shore installations under the control of the United States Navy. As an Echelon II command, it reports directly to the Chief of Naval Operations, chief of naval operations. It is responsible for the operation and management of all Naval installations worldwide through eleven Navy regions. Mission Prior to the creation of CNIC, all of the Navy's major shore echelon II commanders (Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, BUMED, Naval Sea Systems Command, NAVSEA, Naval Supply Systems Command, NAVSUP) operated their own installations independently. Naval Air Facility Atsugi
is a joint Japan-US naval air base located in the cities of Yamato, Kanagawa, Yamato and Ayase, Kanagawa, Ayase in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kanagawa, Japan. It is the largest United States Navy (USN) air base in the Pacific Ocean, and once housed all of the squadrons of Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5), which deploys with the American aircraft carrier forward deployed to United States Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Yokosuka Naval Base. Bonin Islands
The Bonin Islands, also known as the , is a list of islands of Japan, Japanese archipelago of over 30 subtropical and Island#Tropical islands, tropical islands located around SSE of Tokyo and northwest of Guam. The group as a whole has a total area of but only two of the islands are permanently inhabited, Chichijima and Hahajima. Together, their population was 2,560 as of 2021.
