Navacerrada
Navacerrada is a municipality of the Community of Madrid, Spain. It lies at an elevation of on the Reservoir Navacerrada and the entry of the valley of La Barranca in the Sierra de Guadarrama. Located from Madrid, it has only 2,500 permanent residences, but winter visitors increase the population. The Port of Navacerrada has a popular ski resort that is very popular with winter sportspeople. It has a ski school and various restaurants, hotels and accommodation. Climate Although relatively close to Madrid, Navacerrada has a Mediterranean climate with cool/warm summers due to elevation (Köppen: ''Csb'') or dry-summer continental climate (''Dsb'') by 0 °C isoterm, winter is also usually on average a few degrees cooler than the Spanish capital. C-9 (Cercanías Madrid)
Line C-9, formerly known as the Guadarrama Electric Railway (), is a narrow-gauge mountain railway incorporated into Madrid's Cercanías Madrid, Cercanías commuter rail network. The line is operated by Renfe Operadora and runs through the Guadarrama Mountains from Cercedilla, Community of Madrid, Madrid to , Province of Segovia, Segovia. Although classified as a commuter rail line, Line C-9 primarily serves the ski resorts at Cotos and Navacerrada Pass, Navacerrada Passes, connecting with the rest of the commuter rail system with the C-8 (Cercanías Madrid), Line C-8 at Cercedilla Station. Line C-9 is the only metre-gauge railway among the Cercanías Madrid lines. La Barranca (valley)
La Barranca valley is a mountain valley located at the foothills of Bola del Mundo (Alto de Guarramillas) (2265 m) and La Maliciosa (2227 m), within the Sierra de Guadarrama (a mountain range part of the Sistema Central). Administratively, it lies within the municipal boundaries of Navacerrada and Becerril de la Sierra, in the northwest of the Community of Madrid, Spain. The valley is home to a dense forest of Pinus sylvestris, Scots pine through which flows a mountain river, —a tributary of the Manzanares (river), Manzanares river—held back by two small dams, the Pueblo de Navacerrada Dam and the Air Force Dam, before emptying into the Navacerrada Dam. Sierra De Guadarrama
The Sierra de Guadarrama (Guadarrama Mountains) is a mountain range forming the main eastern section of the Sistema Central, the system of mountain ranges along the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. It is in Spain, between the systems Sierra de Gredos in the province of Ávila, and Sierra de Ayllón in the province of Guadalajara. The range runs southwest–northeast, extending from the province of Ávila in the southwest, through the Community of Madrid, to the province of Segovia in the northeast. Collado Villalba () is a municipality of the Community of Madrid, in central Spain. It is located 40.3 kilometres north-west of the city of Madrid, at an altitude of 917 meters above sea level. Cercanías Madrid is the commuter rail service that serves Madrid, the capital of Spain, and its metropolitan area. Cercedilla
Cercedilla () is a municipality in the Community of Madrid, in central Spain. It is located in the Sierra de Guadarrama. Background It was the hometown of Francisco Fernández Ochoa (1950–2006), an alpine ski racer known for being the first (and only) Spaniard to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. He won the slalom in 1972 in Japan. Less than two weeks before his death from cancer, a statue was erected in his honor in Cercedilla.
