''Natarang'', also spelled Natrang ( mr, नटरंग, an ornamental word for "artist", especially a theatre artist), is a 2010 Indian Marathi-language drama film directed by debutant Ravi Jadhav and starring Atul Kulkarni and Sonalee Kulkarni. Composer duo Ajay–Atul composed the original score and songs of the film. Based on ''Natarang'', 1978 Marathi novel by Anand Yadav, the film depicts the journey of a young artist in overcoming hurdles in the form of family, friends, society and to finally realise the unthinkable dream. Sonalee Benodekar (née 'Kulkarni; born 18 May 1988) is an Indian actress who mainly acts in Marathi cinema and Bollywood films. After working as a model in her early career, Sonalee made her debut in Kedar Shinde's film Bakula Namdeo Ghotale, for which she received the ''Zee Gaurav Puraskar'' award for best actress. Kishor Kadam (born 9 November 1967) is an Indian actor and poet who has acted prominently in Marathi and Hindi movies. He has also acted in Tamil movies and has appeared in some television serials as well. Ravindra Jadhav (born 22 September 1971) known professionally as Ravi Jadhav is an Indian film director, actor, screenwriter and producer. He made his directorial debut with the Marathi musical drama ''Natarang'' in 2010. Ravi studied in Sir J.J Institute of Applied art and won the 2009 National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. Anand Ratan Yadav (Marathi: आनंद रतन यादव; 30 November 1935 – 27 November 2016) was a Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India. He is best known for his autobiography ''Zombi'' (झोंबी). He was born on 30 November 1935 in the village Kagal near Kolhapur, Maharashtra in a poor family. His illiterate farmer father was not in favor of educating him. So young Yadav ran away from home, and, facing many hardships, received education as high as a doctorate from Pune University. His books such as ''Jhombi'' and ''Nangarani'' depict his struggle for education. He died in 2016 at Pune. Dholki
The ''dholak'' is a two-headed hand drum, a folk percussion instrument. The instrument is about 45 cm in length and 27 cm in breadth and is widely used in ''qawwali'', ''kirtan'', ''lavani'' and '' bhangra''. The drum has two different sized drumheads. The smaller drumhead is made of goat skin for sharp notes while the bigger drumhead is made of buffalo skin for low pitch. The two drumheads allow a combination of bass and treble with rhythmic high and low pitches. The body or shell of the Dholak is made of sheesham or mango wood. The larger membrane has a compound (Syahi) applied which helps to lower the pitch and produce the sound. The smaller drumhead is played with the left hand which produces a high pitch. A cotton rope lacing and screw-turnbuckle are used to release tension while playing. Steel rings/pegs are twisted inside the laces to attain fine tuning. Lavani () is a genre of music popular in Maharashtra, India. Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which particularly performed to the beats of '' Dholki'', a percussion instrument.
