The Kenyan Nationwide League was the second-division football league in Kenya, until it was replaced by FKF Division One. There is promotion and relegation with the Kenyan Premier League and the Kenyan Provincial League. History In 2008 Nationwide league was divided into two zones with 16 teams each. In 2009 the league was again structured to contain two levels, ''Nationwide League Division One'' and ''Nationwide League Division Two'', representing the second and third levels of Kenyan league system respectively. FKF Division One
FKF Division One is the third tier in the Kenyan football league system. It has a promotion and relegation system with the Kenyan National Super League and the Kenyan Provincial League. It is controlled by the Football Kenya Federation. Most member clubs are semi-professional, though some clubs are either fully professional or amateur. Kenyan Premier League
The Kenyan Premier League (KPL), officially known as the FKF Premier League, is a professional league for men's football clubs in Kenya. Standing at the top of the Kenyan football league system, the league was formed in 1963 under the Kenya Football Federation but is now controlled by the Football Kenya Federation. It is contested by 18 clubs and operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Kenyan National Super League. Gor Mahia are the current champions having won the 2023–24 season. The league was mostly stable until the late 1990s and since then its performance had been considered below average, with many of the league's clubs having little or no finances to support themselves. However, when SuperSport became an official league partner, the league has taken on a more serious role with teams becoming professional and the majority of the clubs managing to get kit sponsorships. Kenyan Provincial League
The Kenyan Regional Leagues are the fourth tier in the Kenyan football league system. They have a promotion and relegation system with FKF Division One and the Kenyan County Champions League, and consists of 8 regional leagues. From the beginning of the 2014 season, the Kenyan Regional Leagues (previously known as the Kenyan Provincial Leagues) were taken down from the third tier to give way to the Kenyan National Super League, the new second tier, now putting them below FKF Division One and above the Kenyan County Champions League, in line with the introduction of a new six-tier system by the Football Kenya Federation to take effect from the beginning of that season. Football Kenya Limited (abbreviated as Football Kenya Ltd., Football Kenya or FKL) was the governing body of football in Kenya. It was founded in 2008 and was recognised by FIFA in the same year, taking over control of Kenyan football from the Kenya Football Federation. FKL organised the Kenya Premier League (KPL), the Kenyan Nationwide League and the Kenya national football team. It was headed by Sam Nyamweya, who was voted in through an election that involved all Kenyan football clubs in 2011, beating six other candidates including KFF chairman Mohamed Hatimy. The Kenyan football league system is a series of several interconnected leagues for association football clubs in Kenya.
