National Transformation Alliance
The National Transformation Alliance is a political party formed in Trinidad and Tobago by former Commissioner of Police and Minister of National Security Gary Griffith in April of 2022. They were previously in an alliance with the United National Congress The United National Congress ( UNC or UNCTT) is one of two major political parties in Trinidad and Tobago. The UNC is a Centre-left politics, centre-left party. It was founded in 1989 by Basdeo Panday, a Trinidadian lawyer, economist, trade unio ... to contest the 2023 local elections. They choose to not continue the alliance ahead of the 2025 general election, instead forming the People's Alliance with Honesty, Opportunity, Performance and Empowerment (HOPE) and the Community Reformation Network (CRN) on 12 March 2025. However, HOPE decided to not put up any candidates but to just support the NTA's candidates and continue collaborating with them. Gary Griffith
Gary Griffith is a former commissioner of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, serving between August 2018 to August 2021 Under the previous government, led by a coalition including the party currently in Opposition, he had been appointed as Minister of National Security in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday 6 September 2013. Between May 2010 and September 2013, he served as National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister. Griffith was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force for 15 years, where he attained the rank of captain in 1998. He retired his Commissioned Officer position in May 2005. This attainment to the rank of captain was achieved after just six years service, which was an unprecedented achievement. United National Congress
The United National Congress ( UNC or UNCTT) is one of two major political parties in Trinidad and Tobago. The UNC is a Centre-left politics, centre-left party. It was founded in 1989 by Basdeo Panday, a Trinidadian lawyer, economist, trade unionist, and actor after a split in the ruling National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR). After spending six years in opposition, the UNC won control of the government in 1995, initially in coalition with the NAR and later on its own. In the 2000 Trinidad and Tobago general election, 2000 general election, the UNC won an absolute majority in the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, Parliament. In 2001, a split in the party caused the UNC to lose its parliamentary majority and control of the government. From 2001 to 2010, the UNC was once again Parliamentary Opposition party. 2023 Trinidadian Local Elections
The 2023 Trinidadian local elections were held on Monday, August 14, 2023, across all 41 electoral districts in Trinidad's 14 municipal corporation electoral areas. Both parties won control of seven of the 14 corporations. The elections follow a 3-2 ruling on May 18, 2023, from the United Kingdom's Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago's highest court of appeal, which stated that the government's one-year extension of the mandate of councillors and alderman was unlawful. The matter was brought before the Law Lords of the Privy Council by Ravi Balgobin Maharaj, and his legal team led by Anand Ramlogan, SC. The legal action taken by Ravi Balgobin Maharaj was necessary after the PNM government decided to extend the election by one year, which the Privy Council ruled was inconsistent with the rule of Democracy. 2025 Trinidad And Tobago General Election
General elections were held in Trinidad and Tobago on 28 April 2025 to elect all 41 members of the House of Representatives. President Christine Kangaloo, on the advice of Prime Minister Stuart Young, dissolved parliament and issued the writs for election on 18 March 2025. This was the first election after the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) redrew the boundaries for 16 constituencies, and renamed five of them. Seventeen political parties and three independents contested the election.
