National Standard Examination In Astronomy
The National Standard Examination in Astronomy or NSEA is an examination in astronomy and astrophysics for higher secondary school students, usually conducted in the end of November (last or second last Sunday). Organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers in association with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), NSEA is the first stage of selection of students in the IOAA. The NSEA is carried out every year since 1987 in English, Hindi & a few other Indian languages. About 16000 students from over 1,200 centres take part in these olympiads. Eligibility Indian citizens who are in classes 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th at the time of examination are eligible to write the exam. Format The paper consists of single correct type questions. There are questions from high school level physics, mathematics and some questions from general astronomy. Indian Association Of Physics Teachers
The Indian Association of Physics Teachers or IAPT is a body that coordinates the Physics Olympiad for India along with HBCSE. It was established in the year 1984 by D. P. Khandelwal, with active support from some Physics teachers. Its aim was the upgrading of the quality of Physics teaching and Physics teachers at all levels. IAPT conducts the National Standard Examination in Physics , National Standard Examination in Chemistry , National Standard Examination in Biology, National Standard Examination in Astronomy , National Standard Examination in Junior Science and National Graduate Physics Examination in November of each year throughout India. The top 1% then sit for the Indian National Physics Olympiad, from where the top thirty students are selected for the International Physics Olympiad Training Camp, usually conducted at HBCSE. International Olympiad On Astronomy And Astrophysics
The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is an annual Astronomy and Astrophysics competition for high school students. It is one of the international science olympiads. The Olympiad was founded from a dissidence inside the International Astronomy Olympiad, in order to increase the scope of the organization. The first IOAA was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in November/December 2007. History The first Olympiad was held in the city of Chiang Mai (Thailand) from November 30 to December 9, 2007. The International Council, consisting of team leaders, elected a president (Dr. Boonrucksar Soonthornthum, Thailand) and a secretary general (Dr. Chatief Kunjaya, Indonesia) for a five-year term. The second Olympiad was held in 2008, from August 19 to 28, in the city of Bandung (Indonesia). It was attended by representatives of 22 countries. International Astronomy Olympiad
The International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) is an internationally recognized annual astronomy scientific-educating event for high school students (14–18 years old), which includes an intellectual competition between these students. It is one of the International Science Olympiads. The Eurasian Astronomical Society founded the IAO in 1996. Competing rounds The competing part of IAO consists of three rounds: a theoretical, an observational, and a practical. Problems of the theoretical round involve classical problems in branches of astronomy, astrophysics, space and planetary physics, and maybe hypothetical situations. The observational round involves recognizing stars, constellations, estimating star magnitude and angular distance, working with telescopes or other observational technique.
