National Speed Skating Oval
The National Speed Skating Oval (The Ice Ribbon) is a speed skating arena which is the only new venue built on Beijing's Olympic Green for the Winter Olympics. It hosted the speed skating competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was built on the location of the former Olympic Green Hockey Field used for field hockey event and the Olympic Green Archery Field used for the archery event. It can accommodate 12,000 spectators (6,800 permanent and 5,200 temporary seats) according to the bid book. After the games it is foreseen to use it as a public skating venue and for ice hockey clubs. Designed by Populous and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, construction began in mid-2017, and was completed in 2019. First competition was held on 8 October 2021. Olympic Green
The Olympic Green () is an Olympic Park in Chaoyang, Beijing, Chaoyang, Beijing, China. The three main facilities there include the National Stadium (China), National Stadium (Bird's Nest), Water Cube, and National Indoor Stadium. Olympic Green was originally constructed for the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2008 Summer Paralympics. Since then, the streets around the park have been used for an exhibition Street circuit, street race of the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2011, after a race at Goldenport Park Circuit in the vicinity. Speed Skating At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's 1500 Metres
The men's 1500 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held on 8 February, at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands defended his 2018 title and became again the Olympic champion. Thomas Krol, also of the Netherlands, won the silver medal. Kim Min-seok of South Korea won bronze. The 2018 silver medalist, Patrick Roest, qualified for the Olympics as well, but did not skate this distance. The bronze medalist, Kim Min-seok, qualified as well. The women's 1500 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 7 February, at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Ireen Wüst of the Netherlands won the distance. She set a new Olympic record and won her sixth Olympic gold medal, thereby becoming the first person to win individual gold medals at five different Olympics. Miho Takagi of Japan won silver, and Antoinette de Jong of the Netherlands bronze. The defending champion was Wüst, who was also the 2010 champion, the 2014 silver medalist, and the 2018 champion. Irene Karlijn "Ireen" Wüst (; born 1 April 1986) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Wüst became the most successful speed skating Olympian ever by achieving at least one gold medal in each of five consecutive Winter Olympic appearances. Wüst is the second athlete (after Britain's Steve Redgrave) to win a gold medal at five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter, and the first to do so in individual events. Miho Takagi (speed Skater)
is a Japanese speed skater. She has won a total of seven medals at the Olympics, two of them gold. Career At the age of 15, Takagi represented Japan at the 2010 Winter Olympics, finishing 35th in the women's 1000 metres and 23rd in the 1500 metres. In 2012 and 2013, she won the World Junior Speed Skating Championships. After participating in several world cup and world championship events, she became a world champion when in the 2015 World Single Distance Championships she won the gold medal in the team pursuit where she participated together with her sister Nana Takagi and compatriot Ayaka Kikuchi. Erin Jackson (born September 19, 1992) is an American speed skater, roller derby player, and Olympic gold medalist. Jackson is the first Black woman to win a Winter Olympic gold medal in an individual sport. She qualified for The World Games 2017 in Wrocław, Poland, where she competed in inline speed skating in various distances on road and track. The men's team pursuit competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 13 February (semifinals) and 15 February (final), at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Ruslan Albertovich Zakharov (; born 24 March 1987) is a Russian athlete in short track and speed skater. Career Zakharov competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics for Russia. In the 500 metres and 1000 metres, he placed fourth in his round one heat, failing to advance, and in the 1500 metres, he placed sixth, also failing to advance. His best overall finish was in the 500, where he placed 27th. As of 2013, Zakharov's best performance at the World Championships came in 2008, when placed 8th in the 1500 metres.
