National Defense University () is a military university established in 2016 and primarily located in Beşiktaş, Istanbul. The university education and training started with the ceremony held on 12 February 2017 at the Air Force Academy. It is a continuation of the Turkish War Academies. History In the first half of the 18th year, reforms were made to the Turkish army organization depending on global developments. In 1845 the first military high school and in 1848 War academies were established. The Turkish Naval Academy, which was established in 1773 and the Turkish Military Academy, established in 1834, were affiliated with the military academies. Kuleli Military High School
Kuleli Military High School was the oldest military high school in Turkey, located in Çengelköy, Istanbul, on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus strait. It was founded on 21 September 1845, by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I. The Naval High School () was a Turkish naval high school located on Heybeliada Island (the second largest of the Princes' Islands) in the Sea of Marmara, to the southeast of Istanbul, Turkey. The school trained naval cadets for the Turkish Naval Academy. Established in 1773, it is one of the oldest Turkish high schools.
