Dumfries, officially the Town of Dumfries, is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, Prince William County, Virginia. The population was 4,961 at the 2010 United States census. Geography Dumfries is located at (38.567853, −77.324591). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km2), all of it land. Nokesville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince William County, Virginia, United States and Fauquier County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,619 in the 2020 census. The community is named for U.S. Marine Corps officer Norvel Nokes. History Nokesville was the center of a farming community with cattle and dairy farms; it became a town and intermediate stop on the Orange & Alexandria Railway in 1865. In the late 19th century–early 20th century, Nokesville was the location of a religious movement called the German Baptist Brethren, which became known as the Church of the Brethren. State Route 215 (SR 215) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Vint Hill Road, the state highway runs from U.S. Route 15 and US 29 at Buckland east to SR 28 near Bristow. Greenwich, Virginia
Greenwich is an hamlet in Prince William County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. American Revolution In January, 1779 captured British and Hessian troops were led through Greenwich on their way to prisoner of war camps located near Charlottesville, Virginia. Later on June 5, 1781 General Anthony Wayne brought his brigade of the Pennsylvania Line over the same route on his way to support Lafayette in the final campaign of the Revolutionary War. Civil War Although several engagements occurred nearby, Greenwich escaped unscathed, in part because of the creative actions of resident Charles Green, an Englishman. Leesylvania State Park
Leesylvania State Park is located in the southeastern part of Prince William County, Virginia, Prince William County, Virginia. The land was donated in 1978 by businessman Daniel K. Ludwig, and the park was dedicated in 1985 and opened full-time in 1992. Haymarket is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,545 as of the 2020 census. History Haymarket is built on land that used to be hunting grounds of the western Iroquois nations, who came from the New York and Pennsylvania area around the Great Lakes. They used hunting paths through the land until 1722, when they made a treaty with the colonies of Virginia and New York to move into the Blue Ridge Mountain region.
