The National Press Foundation is a nonprofit journalism training organization. It educates journalists on complex issues and trains them in reporting tools and techniques. It recognizes and encourages excellence in journalism through its awards. NPF programs are held in Washington, D.C., and other U.S. and international cities. It has recently produced trainings on vaccine development, poverty and inequality in America, international trade, and the 2020 election. History The National Press Foundation was incorporated in the District of Columbia on Aug. 5, 1975, as part of the National Press Club. In 1980, under the leadership of Donald R. Larrabee, it became an independent organization. The Business Roundtable (BRT) is a nonprofit lobbyist association based in Washington, D.C. whose members are chief executive officers of major U.S. companies. Unlike the United States Chamber of Commerce, whose members are entire businesses, BRT members are exclusively CEOs. The BRT lobbies for public policy that is favorable to business interests, such as lowering corporate taxes in the U.S. and internationally, as well as international trade policy like the North American Free Trade Agreement. In 2019, the BRT redefined its definition of the purpose of a corporation as participating in stakeholder capitalism, putting the interests of employees, customers, suppliers, and communities on par with shareholders. Jim Morin
Jim Morin (born January 30, 1953, in Washington, D.C.) is the internationally syndicated editorial cartoonist at the ''Miami Herald'' since 1978 and a painter, usually working in the medium of oil, of more than 40 years. His cartoons have included extensive commentary on eight U.S. presidents: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Morin was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 1996 and again in 2017. As the editorial cartooning Pulitzer category no longer exists, Morin is the last editorial cartoonist to have received the award. Arthur Bernard "Chip" Bok III (born July 25, 1952) is an American editorial cartoonist for the '' Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal'' and the ''Tampa Bay Times''. He has illustrated some of Dave Barry's books, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1997. Early life Born in Dayton, Ohio to University of Dayton team physician and former football player Arthur Bernard Bok, Jr., Bok began editorial cartooning in 7th grade math class, where he was influenced by Don Martin's work in ''Mad'' magazine. He attended college at his father's alma mater, where he was captain of the hockey team. An editorial cartoonist, also known as a political cartoonist, is an artist who draws editorial cartoons that contain some level of political or social commentary. Their cartoons are used to convey and question an aspect of daily news or current affairs in a national or international context. Political cartoonists generally adopt a caricaturist style of drawing, to capture the likeness of a politician or subject. They may also employ humor or satire to ridicule an individual or group, emphasize their point of view or comment on a particular event. The United States Chamber of Commerce (USCC) is a business association advocacy group and is the largest lobbying group in the United States. The group was founded in April 1912 out of local chambers of commerce at the urging of President William Howard Taft and his Secretary of Commerce and Labor Charles Nagel. President Taft's belief was that the "government needed to deal with a group that could speak with authority for the interests of business." The U.S. Chamber of Commerce claims to represent three million small business owners, but this claim is disputed because the organization is funded primarily by the largest corporations in the United States.
