National Operative Staff (Denmark)
The National Operative Staff (NOST) () is a collaboration at the highest level between authorities in Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The staff's main task is to create an overview so that the government and other authorities have a sufficient basis for making decisions. The National Operative Staff is obliged to hold at least one alert exercise every six months. The Danish National Police coordinates the work. NOST is activated, for example, by: * major accidents * disasters * terrorist attacks * cyber attacks * state visits * summits NOST was established in 2005 by the government in connection with the tsunami in Thailand as part of the defense agreement 2005-09. Great Belt Bridge Rail Accident
The Great Belt Bridge rail accident occurred on 2 January 2019 on the Great Belt Fixed Link in Denmark when a passenger train collided with a semi-trailer from or on a passing freight train. The Great Belt Fixed Link is an long bridge–tunnel connection between the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen, and the accident happened on the West Bridge, near Funen. The accident happened during a storm, which had closed down the bridge for road traffic, but not for rail traffic. Eight passengers were killed, all Danish citizens, and 16 were injured, making it the Rail transport in Denmark#Safety record, deadliest rail accident in Denmark since 1988.
