National Music Day In Azerbaijan
National Music Day in Azerbaijan is a holiday annually celebrated on 18 September on the birthday of the founder of the modern professional musical art of Azerbaijan, Uzeyir Hajibeyov. It is a working day. Traditionally, on this day, thousands of people gather in front of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (nowadays the Baku Academy of Music) named in the honor of Hajibeyov. Here, the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, also named after Hajibeyov, under the direction of Niyazi, perform the works of the composer. This was Niyazi who initiated this tradition. In 1995, the Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev issued a decree according to which this day began to be celebrated at state level. Uzeyir Hajibeyov
Uzeyir bey Abdulhuseyn bey oghlu Hajibeyov (18 September 188523 November 1948) was an Azerbaijanis, Azerbaijani composer, musicologist and teacher. He is recognized as the father of Azerbaijani classical music. He composed the music of the Azərbaycan marşı, national anthem of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (which was re-adopted after Azerbaijan regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991). Hajibeyov also composed the anthem used by Anthem of the Azerbaijan SSR, Azerbaijan during the Soviet period. He was the first composer of an opera in the Islamic world. He composed the first oriental opera ''Leyli and Majnun (opera), Leyli and Majnun'' in 1908 and since then he is revered for adapting the written masterpiece to the theatre. AzTV or Azerbaijan Television () is a state-controlled national television station in Azerbaijan. It is the oldest television channel in the country, having first broadcast from Baku on 14 February 1956 in what was then the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. Zemfira Safarova (born 10 June 1937) is an Azerbaijani and Soviet musicologist, doctor of art history, professor (1998), full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (2017), Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1989), Honored Worker of Science of the Azerbaijan SSR, and laureate of the Humay Award. Biography Zemfira Safarova was born on June 10, 1937, in Kislovodsk, USSR, in the family of oil engineer Yusif Safarov. In 1960 she graduated from the Faculty of Theory and Composition of the Baku Academy of Music, in 1966 she completed her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (headed by I. Ya. Ryzhkin). In 1970 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Musical and aesthetic concept of Uzeyir Hajibeyov”. The Hajibeyli Baku Academy of Music (Azeri: ''Hacıbəyli adına Bakı Musiqi Akademiyası'') is a music school in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was established in 1920 in Baku and was previously known as the Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Conservatoire. History In 1920, Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli began a movement aimed at propagating classical music among the people. His report presented at the Azerbaijani People's Commissariat of Education (early Soviet analogue of a Ministry of Education) offering the establishment of a high-level music education institution resulted in the approval of his proposal. Thus, the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire was founded on 25 May 1920. Hajibeyli became one of its first instructors. Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra
The Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra (Azerbaijani language, Azeri: ''Hacıbəyov adına Azərbaycan Dövlət Simfonik Orkestri'') was formed in 1920 being one of the first orchestras in the Soviet Union, at the request of composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov after whom it was later named. It is affiliated with the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Society. Composers such as Rhené-Baton and Otto Klemperer were invited from abroad to assist in establishing and training the orchestra body. From 1938 to 1984, Hajibeyov's nephew Niyazi was conducting the orchestra. After his death, the conducting has been performed by People's Artist of Azerbaijan, Professor Rauf Abdullayev. The orchestra has toured a number of countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, and Egypt. Niyazi Zulfugar oghlu Taghizade Hajibeyov (; 20 August 1912 – 2 August 1984) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani conductor and composer. People's Artist of the USSR (1959) and Hero of Socialist Labour (1982). Early life Niyazi was born on August 20, 1912, in Tbilisi in a family of prominent Shusha musicians. His father was the composer Zulfugar Hajibeyov. He is the nephew of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the founder of the Azeri classical music. He played the violin in "Qırmızı Kadet" Turkish military orchestra in 1921. He studied at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow in 1925-1926. In 1929-30 he studied at the Central Musical Technical School in Leningrad, but dropped out due to health problems. He returned to Baku in 1931. Right after that, he was sent to Dagestan where he met his future wife Həchər khanum. Hecher Khanum's family would not approve of the marriage. Uzeyir Hajibeyov's House Museum
Uzeyir Hajibeyov's House Museum is the house in which the famous Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov lived, located on Shamil Azizbekov Street near the Nizami metro station. The museum was created to perpetuate and propagate the life and work of composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov. The Memorial Museum is under the control of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
