The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), commonly referred to as the National Law School (NLS), is a Public university, public State university (India), state law university established under the National Law School of India Act, 1986, enacted by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Located in Bangalore, India, it is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading institutions for legal education and has consistently been ranked first in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for law. The University offers a five-year undergraduate Bachelor of Arts–Bachelor of Laws programme (BA LLB) and a one-year LLM programme. National Law Universities
National Law Universities (NLU) are public law schools in India, founded pursuant to the second-generation reforms for legal education sought to be implemented by the Bar Council of India. The first NLU was the National Law School of India University aka NLS/NLU Bangalore which admitted its first batch in 1988. Since then, most of the states in India have NLUs. Currently there are 27 NLUs across the country out of which one is an off-centre campus of Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, GNLU SILVASSA Campus. Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah (; IAST: ''dharmo rakṣati rakṣitaḥ'') is a popular Sanskrit phrase mentioned in the Mahabharata and Manusmriti verse 8.15. Subramanya Nagarajarao (), also known as N. Subramanya, is an Indian author, researcher specialised on refugees and translator. He is currently Director of the Indian Research Institute, Mysore. Biography Subramanya Nagarajarao defended his thesis on Tibetan refugees and as awarded his Ph.D. in 1999 by the University of Mysore. He is post graduate in Political Science. Upendra Baxi (born 9 November 1938) is a legal scholar, since 1996 professor of law in development at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He is presently a Research Professor of Law and Distinguished Scholar in Public Law and Jurisprudence at the Jindal Global Law School, OP Jindal Global University. Ram Boolchand Jethmalani (14 September 1923 – 8 September 2019) was an Indian lawyer and politician. He served as India's Union Minister of Law and Justice, as chairman of the Indian Bar Council, and as the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Jethmalani obtained his LL.B. degree at the age of 17 and started practising law in his hometown, Shikarpur, until the partition of India. The partition led him to move to Mumbai as a refugee where he began his life and career afresh. He announced his retirement from judicial profession in 2017.
