Citizen Option () was a political party in Colombia founded November 9, 2009 at the national convention of the former Citizens' Convergence movement. In 2013, it changed its name again to Citizen Option. History Origins The party was first created under the name of Citizen Convergence (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Convergencia Ciudadana'') by ''Luis Alberto Gil Colorado'' (former member of the M-19 guerrilla) in 1997. In 2002 it decided to help the government of president Alvaro Uribe without being part of it. Colombian Parapolitics Scandal
The Colombian parapolitics scandal (known as parapolítica in Spanish, a portmonteau of '' paramilitar'' and '' política'') refers to the Colombian congressional scandal in which several congressmen and other politicians have been indicted for colluding with the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), a paramilitary group which is responsible for killing thousands of Colombian civilians. The scandal broke in 2006 and by April 17, 2012, 139 members of Congress were under investigation. 2014 Colombian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Colombia on 9 March 2014 to elect members to both chambers of Congress. The nationwide constituency for the 102-member Senate was contested, as well as the 166 seats of the House of Representatives, plus the delegates to the Andean Parliament. There were 773 candidates for the Senate, 1,528 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 23 candidates for the five Colombian seats in the Andean Parliament. 32,795,962 Colombians had been registered to vote in the elections by the cut-off date of 25 January 2014. The elections were notable for the decision by former president Álvaro Uribe to stand for the Senate, the first ex-president in modern Colombian history to run for Congress afterwards. 2010 Colombian Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Colombia on 14 March 2010. The nationwide constituency for the 102-member Senate was contested by 16 lists, comprising 948 candidates. There are 33 regional constituencies for the Chamber of Representatives, plus a few other ethnic minority constituencies. In all, 282 lists, with 1,533 candidates, contested the 165 seats in the Chamber. Almost 30 million people were registered to vote. Results Senate Incumbent President Álvaro Uribe maintained an absolute majority of seats in the Senate. The two major parties supporting Uribe – the Party of the U and the Conservative Party –, got 27 and 23 seats, respectively.
