National Highway 61 (NH 61) is a National Highway in India connecting Bhiwandi in Maharashtra to Nirmal in Telangana. The route of this national highway was extended from Nirmal to Jagtial in the state of Telangana. NH-61 runs through states of Maharashtra and Telangana covering a distance of 758 km. Bhiwandi () is a city in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India. It is located northeast of Mumbai, and northeast of the city of Thane. The city is a part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The national highways in India are a network of limited access roads owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. National highways have flyover access or some controlled-access, where entrance and exit is through the side of the flyover. At each highway intersection, flyovers are provided to bypass the traffic on the city, town, or village. These highways are designed for speeds of 100 km/h. Some national highways have interchanges in between, but do not have total controlled-access throughout the highways. On 28 April 2010, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially published a new numbering system for the National Highway network in the Gazette of the Government of India. It is a systematic numbering scheme based on the orientation and the geographic location of the highway. This was adopted to ensure more flexibility and consistency in the numbering of existing and new national highways.
