Golden Gloves
The Golden Gloves of America is an organization that promotes annual competitions of amateur boxing in the United States, in which winners are awarded a belt and a ring, and the title of national champion. The organization currently owns 30 franchises. Hundreds of administrators, coaches, trainers and counselors participate, involving gyms and programs in local and regional tournaments throughout the United States and in a National Tournament of Champions each year. The Golden Gloves is a term used to refer to the National Golden Gloves competition, but can also represent several other amateur tournaments, including regional and state tournaments, such as the Chicago Golden Gloves, and the New York Golden Gloves, and the Rocky Mountain Golden Gloves. Travis Walker (born June 22, 1979) is an American professional boxer. As an amateur, he won the 2003 National Golden Gloves. Amateur career He became the 2003 National Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight Champion beating among others a 17-year-old Travis Kauffman but was in the shadow of the nationally dominant Jason Estrada who beat him three times in the amateurs. Malcolm Tann
Malcolm Earl Tann (born August 20, 1978) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 2002 to 2017. Amateur career Tann started boxing while serving in the United States Air Force. In 2002 Tann became National Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight Champion with a win over, among others, Nathaniel James. Professional career Tann won his first eight bouts, including a bizarre disqualification win over journeyman Clifford Couser (Couser was DQ'd for picking Tann up, slamming him to the mat, then trying to hit him while he was down) in 2003, but was dropped and decisioned by Willie Chapman that same year. Derrick Lavon Jefferson (born March 10, 1968) is an American former professional boxer. He challenged once for the WBO title in 2001, and is perhaps best remembered for his brutal left hook-knockout of Maurice Harris in 1999. Early life Jefferson grew up in Detroit, Michigan, having attended Martin Luther King High School. In high school, Jefferson played basketball and football, and was a Division I basketball player during his college years. Jefferson dropped from college after being shot in the leg during an argument at a party store in November 1993, ending his basketball career. Lance Whitaker
Lance Whitaker (born May 29, 1971) is an American former professional boxer. As an amateur in the super heavyweight division, he won a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games. Nicknamed "Mount", or more recently "Goofi", Whitaker was known for his size – 6 feet, 8 inches – and personability.
