National Development Plan (Brunei)
The National Development Plan (NDP) or natively known as (RKN), is the name assigned by the government of Brunei to a plan designed to carry out Wawasan Brunei 2035 and Diversification (finance), diversify the economy by putting projects, programs, and initiatives into action. The RKN and planning were carried out under the direction of the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS). In 17 National Housing Scheme (RPN) zones covering a total area of , 30,296 homes were built under the Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme (STKRJ) and the Land Scheme since the scheme's introduction in 1984. Under the two Public housing in Brunei, housing schemes, it has used land lots comprising hectares across Districts of Brunei, four districts have been awarded since the program's inception in 1984. The Constitution of Brunei, Brunei Darussalam was created in 1959. Ultimate authority rests with the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan, who is both head of state and head of government. Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB; Jawi: بندر سري بڬاوان; ) is the capital city of Brunei. It is officially a municipal area () with an area of and an estimated population of 100,700 as of 2007. Seria Oil Field
Seria oil field also known as Seria Field is the largest oil field in northwest Borneo, discovered in 1929. The oil is accumulated in Upper Miocene sandstone, trapped in Seria Anticline that straddles the present day coastline. This field has produced more than 1 billion barrels of oil for more than 75 years. Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) is the operator of this field. History The exploration of the field started in late 1926, when F. F. Marriot (British Malay Petroleum Company Field Superintendent) and T. G. Cochrane (General Manager of Sarawak Oilfields Limited) smelled "oil" (H2S) in the Kuala Belait and asked Straub, a Swiss geophysicist, to do a geophysical analysis of the area. A total of 36 oil wells were completed in 1935, while number of oil wells was increased to 53 in 1936. Seria () is a town in Belait District, Brunei, about west from the country's capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The total population was 3,625 in 2016. It was where oil was first struck in Brunei in 1929 and has since become a centre for the country's oil and gas industry. Name The name Seria is an acronym for the South East Reserved Industrial Area. In the past, Seria used to be known as , the local name which translates as 'Wild Pigeon's Field', and referred to the area between the Bera and Seria rivers. However, the name has become forgotten today. Geography Seria is located within a mangrove swamp and surrounded by an oil field. The town has a narrow coast with the South China Sea. Battle Of North Borneo
The Battle of North Borneo took place during the Second World War between Allied and Japanese forces. Part of the wider Borneo campaign of the Pacific War, it was fought between 10 June and 15 August 1945 in North Borneo (later known as Sabah). The battle involved a series of amphibious landings by Australian forces on various points on the mainland around Brunei Bay and upon islands situated around the bay. Japanese opposition to the landings was sporadic initially, although as the campaign progressed a number of considerable clashes occurred and both sides suffered significant casualties, although major combat was largely restricted to Labuan and around Beaufort. Japanese Occupation Of British Borneo
Before the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific, the island of Borneo was divided into five territories. Four of the territories were in the north and under British control – Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan, an island, and British North Borneo; while the remainder, and bulk, of the island, was under the jurisdiction of the Dutch East Indies. On 16December 1941, Japanese forces landed at Miri, Sarawak having sailed from Cam Ranh Bay in French Indochina. On 1 January 1942, the Japanese navy landed unopposed in Labuan. The next day, 2 January 1942, the Japanese landed at Mempakul on North Borneo territory. After negotiations as to the surrender of Jesselton with the Officers-in-charge of Jesselton and waiting for troop reinforcements, Jesselton was occupied by the Japanese on 8 January.
