Nation Radio UK
Nation Radio UK is a quasi-national radio station in the UK, broadcasting online and on DAB. It is owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting. The digital station was launched in June 2016 as Thames Radio with a line-up of former BBC and Capital presenters such as breakfast host Neil Fox, Dean Martin, Tony Blackburn, Alex Lester, Pat Sharp and Neil Francis, with all presenters broadcasting from 'virtual studios' (as Thames Radio had no physical studio premises of its own). In June 2017, Thames Radio dropped all of its presenters and became a non-stop music station, until changing its name to Nation Radio in June 2018. This was because the company behind Thames Radio had acquired a radio licence from Rock Radio Scotland (which was being unused) and wanted to launch a more 'national' service which would also include a station in Wales in time. Digital Audio Broadcasting
Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is a digital radio international standard, standard for broadcasting digital audio radio services in many countries around the world, defined, supported, marketed and promoted by the WorldDAB organisation. The standard is dominant in Europe and is also used in Australia, and in parts of Africa and as of 2025, countries using DAB/DMB, 55 countries are actively running DAB broadcasts as an alternative platform to analogue FM. DAB was the result of a European research project and first publicly rolled out in 1995, with consumer-grade DAB Radio receiver, receivers appearing at the start of this millennium. Morecambe Bay
Morecambe Bay is an estuary in north-west England, just to the south of the Lake District National Park. It is the largest expanse of intertidal mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom, covering a total area of . In 1974, the second largest gas field in the UK was discovered west of Blackpool, with original reserves of over 7 trillion cubic feet (tcf) (200 billion cubic metres). Nation Radio South Coast
Nation Radio South is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting on 106 Hertz, MHz & 106.6 Hertz, MHz FM across the The Solent, South Coast of England, and on Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB on the South Hampshire, Bournemouth, Sussex, Salisbury and Somerset multiplexes. The station is owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting, and was previously run under a brand licence agreement with rival operator Bauer Radio, where the frequencies were used to broadcast Bauer's Greatest Hits Radio. In September 2022, the agreement ended and the station was rebranded to its current name. As of September 2024, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 127,000, according to RAJAR. Kilvey Hill Transmitting Station
The Kilvey Hill transmitting station was originally built at the summit of Kilvey Hill in Swansea, Wales, by the BBC in 1967 as a relay for VHF and UHF television. VHF television came on air a few months before the UHF services. As built, the station did not radiate VHF FM radio, this was added later. Currently, the hill's transmitters cater for viewers and FM radio listeners in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and southern parts of Carmarthenshire, while the digital radio signal covers the rest of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, and other parts of South Wales including Cowbridge and the Vale of Glamorgan where the Wenvoe Transmitters’ signals are shielded by hills. Preseli Transmitting Station
The Preseli transmitting station (formerly spelt Presely) is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility on the eastern end of the Preseli Hills, Preseli Mountains, close to the villages of Crymych and Pentre Galar in Pembrokeshire, Wales (). It is owned and operated by Arqiva. It has a high Radio masts and towers#Steel lattice, guyed steel lattice mast. It was constructed in 1962 by the Independent Broadcasting Authority, IBA to transmit ITV Network, ITV 405-line television with transmissions commencing on Band III channel 8 from antennas at above sea level. Wenvoe Transmitting Station
The Wenvoe transmitting station, officially known as Arqiva Wenvoe, is the main facility for broadcasting and telecommunications for Cardiff and South Wales. It is situated close to the village of Wenvoe in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, in the UK. It comprises a guyed mast with antennas attached at various heights. The average height above sea level is for the television antennas. It is owned and operated by Arqiva. The site serves an estimated 1.5m listeners (0.63m households) in the South West of England, and 1.3m listeners (0.54m households) in Wales. Blaenplwyf Transmitting Station
The Blaenplwyf transmitting station (sometimes written "Blaen Plwyf" or "Blaen-Plwyf") is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility located near the village of Blaenplwyf about to the south west of the town of Aberystwyth, in Ceredigion, Wales (). It was originally built by the BBC, entering service in October 1956 acting as a main transmitter for BBC Band II VHF FM radio. It had been planned that the BBC's 405-line VHF television service would commence on the same date, but delays at Rowridge caused the official switch-on to happen six months later on 29 April 1957. Cardigan Transmitting Station
The Cardigan transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility located at Penwaun in Pembrokeshire, Wales, about 3 km to the south west of the town of Cardigan, Ceredigion, Cardigan, in neighbouring Ceredigion. It was originally built by the BBC, entering service in 1967 acting as a relay transmitter for the now-defunct 405-line VHF television system. Specifications The site has a self-standing lattice tower erected on land that is itself about 180 m above sea level. The television broadcast primarily covered the town of Cardigan and the estuary of the Teifi river. Mynydd Pencarreg Transmitting Station
The Mynydd Pencarreg transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility located on high ground about south of Lampeter, in Ceredigion, Wales. The site has a guyed lattice mast erected on land that is itself about above sea level. It was originally built by the GPO as a telecommunications relay, and (amongst other things) was responsible for handling the microwave feed carrying the now-defunct 405-line VHF BBC television service to the television transmitter at Blaenplwyf about to the northwest near Aberystwyth. Despite this, Mynydd Pencarreg was never a 405-line TV broadcast site.
