Nation Estate
''Nation Estate'' is a 2013 Palestinian movie directed by Larissa Sansour. It is a sci-fi short film that depicts Palestine as a skyscraper, with each floor representing a city in Palestine. An earlier version of the project garnered attention when it was removed from a competition at the Musée de l'Elysée, allegedly due to its political connotations. Plot The film starts with a pregnant woman arriving at a train station. She makes her way up an escalator with a travel bag in hand. At the top of the escalator she uses a fingerprint and retinal scan to enter a lobby and walks over to the elevators. As she pushes the button, she looks over to a poster on the wall that reads "Nation Estate: Living the High Life". Next to the elevator is a directory for the building floors. Each floor is described as a city or area in Palestine. In the elevator, advertisements play on a television screen. Larissa Sansour
Larissa Sansour (Arabic: لاريسا سنسور; born 1973) is a Palestinians, Palestinian artist who currently resides in London, England. She is into photography, film, sculpture, and installation art. Some of her works include Tank (2003), Bethlehem Bandolero (2005), Happy Days (2006), Cairo Taxilogue (2008), The Novel of Novel and Novel (2009), Falafel Road (2010), Palestinauts (2010), Nation State (2012), In the Future, They Ate From the Finest Porcelain (2016), and Archaeology in Absentia (2016). Career She was born in East Jerusalem and studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art. Sansour received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an Master of Arts, MA in fine art from New York University. She studied art history and criticism at the University of Baltimore and was a visiting student at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Leila Sansour ( ar, ليلى صنصور) is the founder and chief executive officer of Open Bethlehem, a non-governmental foundation established to promote and protect the life and heritage of the city of Bethlehem. Sansour developed the Bethlehem Passport in partnership with the city council and governor of Bethlehem. Pope Benedict XVI became the first recipient of the Bethlehem passport when he accepted the ''citizenship of Bethlehem'' from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in December 2005. Sansour is from an old Palestinian Roman Catholic family. She was born in Moscow, February 16, 1966, when her father, Anton, was teaching mathematics at Moscow State University. Aida Nadeem ( ar, عايدا نديم; born 1965 in Baghdad, Iraq) is an Iraqi musician living in Denmark. Early career As a child, Aida, began to sing, dance and write poetry. With interest in classical music, at the age of twelve, she began her studies at the prestigious Music and Ballet school Baghdad. Her main instrument was the bassoon.
