Nathaniel Ford Moore III (January 31, 1884 – January 9, 1910), known as Nathan or Nat, was an American golfer who competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics. He was the son of James Hobart Moore, a wealthy businessman with controlling interest in National Biscuit Company, Continental Can, Diamond Match and the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad; and his wife Lora Moore. He died of natural causes in the Chez Shaw brothel in Chicago's Levee district after spending much of the previous night at the Everleigh Club. Golf At The 1904 Summer Olympics – Men's Individual
The men's individual was a golf event held as part of the Golf at the 1904 Summer Olympics programme. It was the second time the event was held at the Olympics, though it took a much different format than the 1900 golf tournament. 75 golfers from two nations competed. The competition was held approximately 5.75 km north of the Olympic Stadium at Glen Echo Country Club from September 19 to September 24, 1904. The event was won by George Lyon of Canada, one of only 3 golfers not from the host United States. Lyon defeated American Chandler Egan in the final, giving Egan the silver medal. Americans Burt McKinnie and Francis Newton were the defeated semifinalists, each receiving bronze. The Everleigh Club was a high-class brothel which operated in Chicago, Illinois from February 1900 until October 1911. It was owned and operated by Ada and Minna Everleigh. Opening Ada Everleigh, the elder, was born in Greene County, Virginia on February 15, 1864,. and died in Charlottesville, Virginia on January 5, 1960. Minna was born in Greene County on July 13, 1866 and died in New York City on September 16, 1948. Initially born with the surname Simms, the sisters took the name Everleigh which was inspired by their grandmother's tradition to sign her letters, "Everly yours." Lora Josephine Knight (1 May 1864 - 26 June 1945) was a philanthropist from California who was at one time one of the wealthiest women in America according to newspaper reports. She was a major promoter and financial backer of Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic in the ''Spirit of St. Louis''; and donated to a number of other causes and funded various building projects including her own summer retreat Vikingsholm, for which she is most known.
