Nathan Hedge
Nathan "The Hog" Hedge (born 28 May 1979, in Brisbane, Queensland) is a professional surfer raised on the Northern Sydney beach of Narrabeen. Having served his apprenticeship at the highly pressurised line-up of East Coast Australia's North Narrabeen, Nathan 'The Hog' Hedge has proven himself to be one of the areas most highly regarded sons. His style is characterised by both power and precision, while his control inside a barrel bares his own personal mark of determination. Joining the Rip Curl team as an unabashed grom, Hog refined his competitive mettle surfing some of the best waves in the world alongside some of the greatest surfers in the world, thanks to 'The Search' campaign. Hog qualified for the ASP World Tour in 2001, and quickly established himself as the unofficial spokesman for all things Australian. Narrabeen is a beachside suburb in northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Narrabeen is 23 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Northern Beaches Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region. This area was named Broken Bay by James Cook as he sailed by. History There are a number of theories on the origin of the name "Narrabeen". The most fanciful is that Narrabeen is named after "narrow beans" which the English in the first year of settlement (1788) found and ate from a vine growing over beach sand. Surgeon White indeed recorded getting ill from such beans but this was well north of Narrabeen, near Broken Bay. The name Narrobine Creek appears in 1801 in records relating to two escaped convicts, and thus the name appears to have been in use before then. The World Surf League (WSL) is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world's best talent in a variety of progressive formats. The World Surf League was originally known as the International Professional Surfing founded by Fred Hemmings and Randy Rarick in 1976. IPS created the first world circuit of pro surfing events. In 1983 the Association of Surfing Pros took over management of the world circuit. In 2013, the ASP was acquired by ZoSea, backed by Paul Speaker, Terry Hardy, and Dirk Ziff. Teahupoo
Teahupoo () is a village on the southwestern coast of the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is known for the surf break and heavy, glassy waves offshore, often reaching , and sometimes up to . It is the site of the annual Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition, part of the World Championship Tour (WCT) of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour surfing circuit, and used to be one stop in the World Tour of the International Bodyboarding Association. ''Surfer'' was an American monthly periodical focused on surfing and surf culture, founded in 1962 by noted surfer, writer, photographer, artist and humorist John Severson (1933–2017). The magazine folded in 2020. ''Surfer'' began as a quarterly publication, then a bi-monthly, subsequently becoming a monthly. When Severson sold ''Surfer'' in the late 1960s to ''For Better Living'', the magazine had around 100,000 active world-wide subscribers.
