Nate Williams (basketball, Born 1950)
Nathaniel Russell Williams (born May 2, 1950) is a former professional basketball player. A swingman from Utah State University, Williams was selected first in the 1971 NBA Hardship Draft, a supplemental draft for college underclassman. He played eight and a half seasons (1971–1979) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Cincinnati Royals/Kansas City-Omaha Kings, New Orleans Jazz, and Golden State Warriors. His finest season took place in 1973–74, when he averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists for the Kings. He ended his NBA career with 7,709 total points. Columbia, Louisiana
Columbia is a town in and the parish seat of Caldwell Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 277 in 2020. History The land that became Columbia was first cleared by Daniel Humphries in 1827. A store was built a few years later the only settlement between Monroe, Louisiana, and the settlements of the Black River was formed. The harbor became a busy port for shipping cotton by steamboats and Packet boats until the arrival of the railroad. In February 1864 Columbia was the location of a skirmish between Federal and Confederate troops during the Civil War and there are several plantations in the area. Geography Columbia is located just east of the center of Caldwell Parish on the southwest bank of the Ouachita River. 1971–72 Cincinnati Royals Season
The 1971–72 season would be the Royals final season in Cincinnati. The franchise continued to struggle and missed the playoffs for the 5th year in a row. The Royals finished the season with a record of 30 wins and 52 losses. Prior to the season, the Royals were sold to a group of 10 businessmen from Kansas City. The new ownership group paid $5 million for the franchise and a decision was reached to move the team after the season. The franchise would relocate west where they would be reborn as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings. The 1977–78 New Orleans Jazz season was the team's fourth in the NBA. They began the season hoping to improve upon their 35–47 output from the previous season. They started the season going 6-2 and later in the season with a 16–24 record, the team managed to go on a 10-game winning streak and we're still in a playoff hunt with a 36–37 record before a 6-game losing streak dashed any playoff hopes for the fourth straight season, but still they finished the season with a 3-game winning streak and improved their 35-47 one year earlier by four wins, finishing 39–43. The 1976–77 New Orleans Jazz season was the team's third in the NBA. They began the season hoping to improve upon their 38–44 output from the previous season. They came up three wins shy of tying it, finishing 35–47, and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season. Pre-season The Jazz previously had the rights to Moses Malone, having selected him with the first pick of the NBA's supplemental draft of former ABA players who were underclassmen. However, to retain Malone the Jazz had to forfeit the #1 pick in the 1977 NBA Draft. They chose to relinquish Malone's rights and retain the pick, which they packaged in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire Gail Goodrich and the Lakers' 1978 1st round pick. The Lakers received the Jazz' 1977, 1978, and 1979 first round picks and their 1980 second round pick in return.
