Nate Smith (catcher)
Nathaniel Beverly Smith (April 26, 1935 – August 18, 2019) was an American professional baseball player, a catcher whose career was confined to minor league baseball except for a five-game Major League Baseball, Major League stint with the Baltimore Orioles at the end of the season. He threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Born in Chicago, Smith attended Tennessee State University. His professional career (1956–59; 1961–64) was spent in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers' organization until the Orioles purchased his contract from the Triple-A Omaha Dodgers in September 1962. In his first MLB at bat, Smith pinch hit for Oriole pitcher Wes Stock and single (baseball), singled off left-hander Ted Bowsfield of the Los Angeles Angels. Ira Nathaniel Smith (born December 14, 1974), generally referred to as Nate Smith, is an American drummer, songwriter, producer, and three-time Grammy Nominees, Grammy nominee. Life and career Smith was born in Chesapeake, Virginia, and started playing drums at age 11, initially influenced by rock and funk music. At 16, he developed an interest in jazz after listening to ''Album of the Year (Art Blakey album), Album of the Year'' by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Smith studied media art and design at James Madison University. While at James Madison, he performed at the Conference of the International Association for Jazz Education in Atlanta, where he met Betty Carter, who invited him to joint performances at the Blue Note in New York City. Nate David Smith (born August 28, 1991) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Despite spending time on the 40-man roster of the Los Angeles Angels, he never played in Major League Baseball (MLB). Career After graduating from Lakota West High School, Smith played college baseball at Furman University. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the eighth round, with the 247th overall selection, of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. Smith signed with the Angels and made his professional debut with the rookie-level Orem Owlz. He spent the whole season there, going 2–2 with a 3.86 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 35 innings. Smith started 2014 with the High-A Inland Empire 66ers and was later promoted to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers. After his song "Wildfire" went viral on TikTok in 2020, he signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. He gained prominence on social media before landing his major label record deal.
